KERRY DIXON: Sportsman's Dinner

The next Sportsmen’s Dinner has been arranged for Thursday November 29th with guest speaker KERRY DIXON (ex Chelsea and England) and compere JAMIE REID of BBC Radio fame.

Kerry Dixon is one of Chelsea’s best-loved players and their second ever highest scorer with 193 goals over nine seasons between 1983 and 1992, just nine short of the club’s all-time record scorer Bobby Tambling.

He joined Chelsea from Reading for £175,000 as the team was rebuilt following near relegation to the Third Division. Kerry made an immediate impact, scoring twice on his debut against Derby and notching 34 goals in his first season as the club claimed the Second Division title.

In his first season in the top flight Kerry scored 36 goals to win the Golden Boot and take his Chelsea tally to 70 in just 101 games, earning a call up to the England squad in the process.

A serious muscle injury in January 1986 slowed Kerry's progress though and the club was relegated in 1988. Ironically, this helped to rekindle some of his earlier form and Kerry totalled 25 league goals as he won the Second Division title for the second time in 1988-89. Back in the First Division he scored 26 as Chelsea finished fifth, their highest position since 1970.

He left Chelsea to join Southampton in 1992 and subsequently had spells with Luton Town, Millwall, Watford and Doncaster Rovers (whom he also managed).

Kerry won eight caps for England, scoring four goals and was a member of the 1986 World Cup squad in Mexico.

He is the official patron of the fan site www.cfcnet.co.uk and works for Chelsea TV

Kerry once scored twice for Dunstable against Folkestone at Cheriton Road and also once partnered a certain Neil Cugley in attack for a Southern League representative team!
