Two headed goals from leading scorer James Everitt gave sixth-placed Folkestone Invicta victory over seventh-placed Chipstead in the Ryman League Division One South at the Buzzlines Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Everitt had not scored for seven matches after hitting eleven in the previous ten games, but took his tally to 15 in all competitions this season.

A clean sheet after a run of nine games without one will also have come as a welcome bonus for the Folkestone side.

EVERITT opened the scoring in the 43rd minute when he met a Simon Austin cross from the left to complete a superb move that had started with a good run forward from Josh Burchell.

And EVERITT made it 2-0 when he headed in again across goal in the 64th minute after a good deep cross from central defender Frankie Chappell.

Invicta had gone close in the 12th minute when striker Stuart King shot against the post after a good turn on the right hand side.

But Chipstead gave as good as they got during the first half as a Callum O’Shea shot from outside the penalty area deflected wide in the 13th minute and Marcus Elliott shot at Invicta goalkeeper Jack Delo after breaking down the left hand side a minute later.

Julian Thompson then shot wide from the left hand side in the 20th minute.

A good chance to equalise for the visitors went astray in the 24th minute when O’Shea lost his footing after Jordan Brown had played the ball in from the left.

Invicta then had further chances of their own as King looped the ball over across goal from the right hand side after a good ball from Burchell.

Striker Austin could then not quite get enough power on his far post header after a good run and cross from James Everitt down the right hand side in the 28th minute.

At the other end, Chappell headed out for a corner in the 32nd minute when Chipstead’s matt York met a ball in from the left with a header at the far post.

A well-struck shot from Elliott from the left hand side of the penalty area swerved over the Invicta crossbar after the striker had combined with O’Shea.

The visitors then had two chances in the 42nd minute as Jason Dolby was wide with a free header and Thompson could not get the ball under control when Elliott played him in.

And Invicta were ahead a minute later to take the initiative.

A 50th minute King shot on the turn threatened to catch out goalkeeper Martin Grant after a Darren Smith ball.

King then shot over five minutes later when a Liam Dickson cross from the left was partially cleared.

Everitt’s second goal was to put the home side well in control and Chappell headed over when the ball came off Brown close to goal.

Chipstead continued to go forward and substitute Josh James shot against the post in the 69th minute after a move involving Bruce Hogg, Brown and Elliott down the left.

A 71st minute Elliott shot deflected for a corner as Chipstead threatened again and Owen Davies hooked the ball at Delo when York met the subsequent corner.

James shot at Delo from outside the penalty area a minute later as the visitors sought a way back into the game.

But Invicta’s Everitt was denied a hat-trick of headers in the 79th minute when he met a Josh Vincent cross from the right at the far post but Grant saved at the expense of a corner.

Everitt had another opening in the 82nd minute when he shot at Grant from the edge of the penalty area after a ball forward from Smith.

There were bookings for Chipstead’s Hogg, captain Jason Goodchild and Rob Watkins.
