Already relegated Folkestone Invicta were beaten 2-0 at home to Ryman Premier League champions Sutton United amid a party atmosphere at a sunny Buzzlines Stadium in Easter Saturday's top v bottom encounter.

Sutton came to Folkestone having been confirmed as champions last Sunday when Bury Town lost away to Cray and were able to celebrate in front of their jubilant visiting supporters.

Richard Jolly and Fola Orilonishe scored the first half goals for Sutton either side of Invicta having Darren Smith sent off for dissent.

Once again Invicta found themselves out of luck as strikers James Everitt and James Dryden hit the post and crossbar respectively.

Invicta went into the game with the same starting eleven for a fifth successive game as their small squad sees out the season, but they were on their way to a third successive 2-0 defeat.

The home side were unlucky in the ninth minute when Everitt shot across goal but against the far post when striking partner Dryden played him through down the right hand side of the penalty area.

But Sutton soon began to create chances of their own as Orilonishe headed at home goalkeeper Jack Delo a minute later when Leroy Griffiths played the ball across from the right.

Griffiths was then just wide with an attempted chip and Jolly lobbed just over the crossbar from the edge of the penalty area,.

And it was top goalscorer JOLLY who opened the scoring in the 16th minute when he slotted the ball in after Orilonishe had played it across from the left.

A Tommy Kavanagh shot was blocked by Invicta defender Liam Dickson inside the penalty area when Bradley Woods-Garness squared the ball across.

Invicta's task in the sun was made all the harder when midfielder Smith was given a straight red card for comments made to referee Mick O'Keefe in the 28th minute after a possible handball by Steve McKimm.

It was Invicta's eighth sending off of the season and a second for leading goalsocrer Smith.

Invicta responded by going four at the back with Dickson moving across to left back and Josh Burchell pushing up into midfield.

Woods-Garness got put through down the right hand side on the half hour mark but ran the ball out of play by going round Delo.

But ORILONISHE made it 2-0 in the 31st minute when he put the rebound in after Delo had saved from Kavanagh when Woods-Garness squared the ball to the edge of the penalty area.

Tom Davis side-footed the ball over with another clear chance in the 34th minute when Woods-Garness played Griffiths in down the right hand side.

A 36th minute Burchell cross from the right was headed over by Dryden, while Delo got down to touch an Orilonishe header wide at the far post after a Sam Page cross from the right a minute later.

Orilonishe broke dangerously down the left hand side just before half time but Delo got down to save at the expense of a corner.

Invicta were desperately unlucky again in the 56th minute when Sutton goalkeeper Wayne Shaw tipped over a curling Dryden shot from the edge of the penalty area and Dryden headed against the underside of the crossbar from Burchell's subsequent corner on the left.

At the other end, Jolly shot wide as Sutton broke down the right hand side in the 63rd minute and a Woods-Garness shot was charged down by Dickson six minutes later with Jolly hooking the rebound over.

Invicta used all three substitutes with teenager Niall Jackson getting a first taste of Ryman League action.

Fellow substitute Roy Guiver was just wide with an 89th minute diving header after a good move also involving Josh Vincent and Frankie Chappell down the right.

A 90th minute Woods-Garness shot swerved just wide at the other end and Sutton were left to celebrate their title success with visiting supporters at the final whistle as the PA man put on 'We Are The Champions'.

A nice touch.
