Invicta aim for double over struggling Hillians

FOLKESTONE Invicta travel to Sussex again this weekend in search of their eighth win on the bounce to further strengthen their place in the top three of Ryman One South.

After an astonishing 20 goals in six league games during December, Neil Cugley’s side needed a late, late goal from the outstanding Josh Burchell to secure a 1-0 win that made it seven on the spin at Whitstable on the New Year bank holiday.

Invicta’s outstanding December earned Cugley the Southern Division Manager Of The Month title for the first time this season and they will be keen to pick up another three points at Burgess Hill’s Leyland Park on Saturday.

The Hillians are having a fairly difficult time of it this season and currently sit 20th in the table with only Whyteleafe and seemingly doomed Croydon Athletic below them.

It is understood that Croydon’s fate could be decided at a meeting in London later today, Thursday, with most of the top sides, including leaders Bognor Regis, second placed Whitehawk and third in the table Folkestone expected to lose the points they gained in matches against the disgraced Surrey outfit.

Only Dulwich Hamlet, currently fourth and two points behind both Whitehawk and Folkestone, seem likely to be unaffected.

A fine 25-yard goal from top scorer James Everitt gave Folkestone the three points and a 1-0 win from their home game against Burgess Hill at the start of October, but prolific striker Stuart King was forced to sit that one out and with King back in the side and scoring regularly, visiting fans will be hoping for a slightly more clearcut victory this time out.

Roland Edge and Simon Austin appear to be boss Cugley’s only minor injury worries and he could well field the same side that won at Whitstable on Monday.
