FINAL SCORE
Saturday 8th January - Premier Division
Braintree Town 2-1 Slough Town
Chelmsford City 1-0 Harrow Borough
Cheshunt 1-0 Worthing
Eastleigh 7-1 Hendon
**Folkestone Invicta 1-0 Billericay Town
Kingstonian 1-2 Tonbridge Angels
Leyton 3-2 Salisbury City
Northwood 1-0 Dover Athletic
Staines Town 0-0 Hampton & Rich Boro
Windsor & Eton 3-3 Heybridge Swifts
**Att: 423 Scorer: Simon Glover 9th minute.
1st Half : Strong wind at Billericay's back, had 17 corners to Invicta's 3. FI
defended well.
2nd half: Wind to Invicta's benefit but corner count was about equal. Invicta
shaded it and deserved all three points.
MOM: Defence brilliant, John Guest was outstanding.
FI: Kessell, James Everitt, Lamb, Flanagan, Guest, Lindsey, Micheal Everit,
Glover (Munday), Dryden, Sykes (Neilson), Norman. SNU: Walker, Dyson, Morrin.
BT: Gothard, McSweeny, Kerrigan, Sappleton, Trott, Dormer, Game, Hunter, Elder,
Cousins, Gallagher. SNU: Stone, Poole, Simmons, Linbrick, Wayman.
Invicta's impressive Bryco Cup display against one of the bigger names in
non-league football (Kingstonian given a six 6-1 one thrashing) has given Neil
Cugleys squad a boost which will hopefully enable Folkestone to gain
sufficient points to stay in the Ryman premier league. Points mean prizes and
now they must add consistency to their play and convert more chances to
goals and goals to wins.
Kevin Watson is not yet fully recovered and will hopefully return for the KSC tie
on the 18th away to Dartford. Steve Norman (twisted ankle) hopes to return
on Saturday as does Mark Munday.
Cugs will be looking to his up and coming Under18's to make further progress
with the 1st team squad. Walker, Neilson, James Everitt, Waters, Morrin are
likely candidates, some will start the game whereas others will have to sit on
the bench and wait for the call. There day will come.
Another youngster from the Invicta Youth section, 16 year old Luke Coleman,
was invited to spend a week with Chelsea and by all accounts they were
impressed by him, let's hope he is given a further opportunity.

NEW YEAR PREVIEW
After lasts weekends home record breaking crowd of 2,278 its back to earth
and our weekly trip around the M25, this Saturday off at J13 and onwards to
Windsor & Eton, another mid-table side.
Monday is another Bank Holiday and we are at home to Kingstonian in the
Bryco League Cup kick off 3pm.
Lets hope that Simon Glover has got over his histrionics and disappointment at
not being in the starting line-up against Dover and that he will be back in the
16 for both games. We all have to learn how to eat humble pie at sometime.
Manager Neil Cugley has lost a couple of players to injuries Munday (calf),
Watson (groin) and will be reliant on all available players in his depleted squad
plus at least five youngsters from the U18's.

Freezing conditions prevented all but four of todays Ryman Premier matches taking place.
Folkestone Invicta's local derby with cash strapped Dover brought a record attendance of 2,278 and saw Invicta riding their luck, particularly in the 1st half. This was never going to be a
classic and Invicta managed perhaps one shot on target for the 1st half and maybe four or five in the 2nd period.
Dover controlled the first half and would probably consider themselves hard done by at the end. They had the more adventurous individuals but Invicta's team performance got them through.
There was a hint of farce attached to the 57th minute goal as a cruel deflection took the Dover goalie out
of the action allowing John Guest to tap home the winner.
INVICTA: Kessells, Lamb, Norman, Flanagan, Guest, Lindsey, M Everitt, Munday (Walker), Dryden, Sykes (Neilson), Burke. SNU: J Everitt, Coleman, Morrin.
DOVER: Jean-Zephirin, Cloke, Grime, Palmer, Sterling, Braithwaite, Bubb (Readings), Maynard, Wright, Renner, Warren. SNU: Hamshare, Gregory, J Rogers, P Rogers.

BIG GAME AT THE WESTBOURNE STADIUM
The first of this seasons long awaited local derbies takes place at Invicta's
Westbourne Stadium in the Cheriton Road this afternoon (RP - Invicta v Athletic 3pm KO).
The formbook suggests that Invicta with only one defeat in the last seven
matches should be strong enough to take the three points but when did form
mean anything between these sides.
Dovers desperate financial plight is well documented and they are currently
second from botttom in the Ryman Premier. However some splendid fund
raising ventures from committed Athletics supporters seems to be working
miracles at Crabble.
Local pride is a big factor but we all know the old maxim "Pride comes before
a fall." I well remember a brace of goals from Dovers Nicky Dent in the first
five minutes of the last competetive game between these sides which settled
the tie. Who knows what memories fans will take home with them after this
afternoons match! Whatever the result today come along and enjoy the
sunshine and the football.

Mon 27th Dec - RP - Folkestone Invicta v Dover Athletic - 3pm KO
Whilst trawling through the pre-match offerings (some hostile, venomous,
tedious, etc) on the Folkestone Invicta FC Forum, my eye was drawn to the
following treasure which I felt had to be recorded for posterity on the Invicta

Order of play for December 27
MATCHDAY MANAGER Thu Dec 23 09:21:09
10am: Doors open at Stripes Club. Mr Winter's walking party leave Crabble.
11am: Early team news is that Dover could include young keeper Lance
Cronin from Crystal Palace in place of the French bloke and also Jude
Finnegan - sorry that's Jude Stirling - not Prince's son - who once played for
Luton. He's a defender.
12 noon: Corky arrives from the Nailbox full of Christmas cheer and half of
bottle of Wood's Navy Rum. Tellls packed clubhouse that he's already sold
one load of golden goals tickets round the pub.
"Is that money going to Dover?" asks Nige. "No way, it's gonna be divided
jointly between the Baggies Fighting Fund and the Joey Barton/Robbie Savage
Clinic for Eye Surgery.'
1pm: Music starts: Early requests played include: 'Judy in Disguise' for Frank
Clarke; 'He Aint Bitter, He's My Brother' for Peter Kemp and 'These Boots Are
Made For Walking', as requested by the Footsloggers.
Soon followed by : 'Fire-d' by the Amazing World of Arthur (Steven) Browne'
and 'Fire Prevention' by DJ Terry.
Also 'Ben', by special request of the lead walker.
1.30pm: Dover's team coach arrives at the Stripes entrance to a rapturous
reception for their fans already at the ground.
1.45pm: Sir Clive Arnold's club shop has sold out of seasonal Invicta wear with
Dover's contribution of 200 'Kempy Must Go' t-shirts knocked out dirt cheap.
Nice colour, though. Sort of puce. Goes with your bathroom suite.
2pm: Carols by the Snowdown Male Voice Choir, supported by Battleska
Galactica, Kingskin and Bob Bartell (aka Jason Bartlett's dad).
2.30pm: Local referee Dave Shrewsbury drops in from 10,000ft on his
parachute jump.
Lands on top of new Dover goalie and injures him. Jean-Claude Van Damme's
going to have to play now.
2.45pm: Teams presented to local dignitaries including Metal Micky Howard,
leader of the opposition and Dover's member, Mr Grim Tosser.
2.50pm: Snowdown MVC are joined by Pop Star Willie who leads the singing
of 'Abide With Me.' Followed by the natioal anthems - 'God Save the Queen'
and, by special request, the Ukranian version.
2.55pm: Frantic phonecall from Dover Webmaster who has got stuck on the
Sense of Humour By Pass. 'You CAN"T start the game without ME' he pleads.
2.56pm: Game kicks off early.
3.48pm (approx): Halftime. The afore-mentioned web-person joins Folkestone
centre back Adam Flanagan - who is tired of having so little to do in those 45
minutes - in potential new double act - Flanagan and Allen.
They go down reasonably well with the grandads' stand, but then so too did
Vera Lynn.
4.03: Second half
4.55: Final whistle. Lord Jim and Uncle Bob shake hands on an honourable
draw.
5pm: Both sets of fans go home - or to the nearest bar (ie Stripes Club or the
Invicta Club) reasonably happy.
Even PSW and Riverend Rod are reasonably happy.
Jonesy buys a round
(Now this is getting silly - D Addison, website editor)
Website warriors call a truce over the rest of the holiday. Problem is half of
them don't know what that means. But they can go back to their X-Boxes.
6-11pm: Really grown up evening. At least Margate lost (were they playing?)
Lord Jim smiles for the first time today.
Only another half a million needed.
PS - was Jim Gleeson here? I haven't seen him.
11pm: Closing Time

ECONOMICS
Whilst others are involved in a war of words with the folks from over the hill,
Invicta mananger Neil Cugley has been quietly fine tuning his squad and
making some more savings.
Martin Chandler and John Walker have both agreed to come off contract for the
moment, that is to say they won't be paid unless they play. Martin is still
awaiting a scan of the injured knee which has dogged his season and his
fitness level.
Lee Dyson, assistant manager and trainer, is moving to Grantham thus
reducing the payroll even further. Lee is a PTI with the Army and has worked
hard with Neil Cugley to raise the fitness levels of the playing squad.
CHELMSFORD AWAY
Just in case any of you have forgotten, we have a game on Saturday away to
Chelmsford City at the New Lodge, where we have an opportunity to
extend our unbeaten league run to seven. We need to concentrate on the
Chelmsford game for now and worry about the Xmas Bank Holiday fixture with
Dover later. Adam Flanagan must serve a one match ban at Chelmsford so
Paul Lamb (missed last seven games due to injury) looks a likely starter on
the left side of defence.
Latest Web News from www.chelmsfordcityfc.com ...
Managerless Chelmsford City will be boosted by the return of George Lay for
Saturday's home clash with Folkestone Invicta. The young winger has re-joined
the Clarets after spending most of this season warming the Welling United
substitutes' bench.
In the meantime, injured midfield duo Lee Williams and Sammy Cooper are
both doubtful, whilst striker Steve Bennett is still recovering from a long-term
foot injury.
The Kent visitors are expected to have two former Clarets in their line-up,
namely Steve Norman and Kevin Watson.
Kick-off at New Lodge is 3:00pm.

Folkestone Invicta 3-1 Salisbury City
HT 2-0, FI Scorers: Munday (38), Flanagan (40), Dryden (81)
SC Scorer: Wallace (60)
It was a pleasure to see (and hear) so many supporters for the
visiting team, that's always good for the game, the players up their
perfomance, the bars and tea bars tills keep ticking over and the
majority of visitors are paying full admission at the gate.
Invicta started well but gradually Salisbury increased their
possession and shaded the half about 40/60 but it was the home
team who finished the first half 2 goals up. Munday headed
in the corner in the 38th minute and two minutes later
Flanagan headed in the 2nd. HT 2-0.
Salisbury started the 2nd half and had a good spell for about 15
minutes, scoring though Wallace in the 60th minute where
we went into our shell a bit, however we then got the whip hand and
Jim Drydens 81st minute goal was well deserved, the
Invicta No 9 on another day would have buried some of the other
chances and scored a hat-trick.
Toward the end of the game Neil Cugley made three substitutions,
Munday was replaced by Lamb, Burke replaced by Glover, and
Dryden by Neilson, but the balance of the team was unaffected.
Both Lamb and Glover were returning after injuries.
At the end of the day Invicta have moved up to the middle of the
Ryman Premier table with 22 games played, 28 points, and a goal
difference of +5. Admittedly many of the other teams have games in
hand but they still have to win those games.
Next Saturday sees us in Essex visiting our old friends Chelmsford,
another struggling ex-Dr Martens side, and hoping to continue the
unbeaten run (currently six games without defeat).
INVICTA: Kessell, Watson, Norman, Flanagan, Guest, Lindsey,
Everitt, Munday (Lamb), Dryden (Neilson), Sykes, Burke (Glover).
SNU: Coleman, Morrin.
SALISBURY: Sawyer, Bartlett, Lisk, Cook, Thomas, Holmes
(Howes), Turk, Davis, Wallace, Matthews (Leigh), Tubbs. SNU:
Cooper, Bond, Cook.
BRYCO CUP FIXTURE
Folkestone Invicta now have an additional fixture to finish off the
Christmas/New Year festivities. This is on Tuesday January 3rd
when Kingstonian are our Bryco Cup (Ryman League Cup) 3rd
round visitors.
DECEMBER (DR MARTENS!) FIXTURES
The line-up for this Saturdays Ryman Premier league match
(Salisbury City) is expected to be unchanged from the starting
eleven that were considered unlucky to only draw at Staines.
Salisbury, another ex Dr Martens League Club have not started life
very well in the Ryman which is also true of our next two opponents,
Chelmsford (away Sat 18) and Dover (home Mon 27). All three are
below us in the league and it's vital that we maintain that position to
secure our place at this level for next season. Our defence is
looking very sound again and goals in the plus column are coming
from all parts of the team now. Neil Cugley is to be congratulated
for bringing in the 3 or 4 experienced players that have enabled us to
compete with Ryman clubs with much bigger playing squads, it's an
exciting blend of youth, flair and experience.
A couple of afternoons spent at the Westbourne Stadium could be
time well spent, lets face it it's got to be better than Christmas
shopping with the family. The long Christmas holidays can be very
stressful so your nearest and dearest may be very happy for you to
take the kids down to the Westbourne stadium for a couple of
afternoons. If you've got money burning a hole in your pocket/wallet
Santa Clive will welcome you to the Club shop and help you to feel
good about contributing to Folkestone Invicta, all club shop sales
profits are put back into the club.

AFTER STAINES, CUGS HOPING FOR A CLEAN SHEET !
Neil Cugley will be taking his squad round the M25 West for Invicta's first ever visit to
fifth placed Staines Town on Saturday (Dec 4). The last 3 outings should surely
have put a spring in his step with NIL goals against and all of his recent signings
keen to impress with good individual performances.
Currently there are only two injury problems, Martin Chandler awaits the result of a
scan of his knee and Paul Lamb's ribs will keep him sidelined at least until the
Salisbury game (Dec 11). Steve Norman will continue in the left back position for the
moment so defensively we have sufficient cover. Lamb's eventual return should
present Neil with some alternative strategies.
John Walker will rejoin the Reserves tomorrow to get a full competitive game, away
at Whitstable Res in a Kent Intermediate Cup round two tie and Joe Neilson will
switch to the 1st team subs bench at Staines.
After the recent disappointments (FA Cup and Trophy) Neil is to be congratulated for
boosting the squad in such a short time from a nervous group with little confidence
into a more focused team who play for each other. Get along and support them if
you can and then hopefully we will gain some more valuable league points by
Christmas.
