Tottington u16's (Bury) (1) 3-2 (1) Folkestone Invicta U16's

INVICTA: Hurley Cheeseman Dickson Cheeseman Dennis Spearpoint Coleman Blanks Waters Harrison Lloyd : Not Used Finch Smith

Man of the match (voted for by players): Justin Cheeseman

The coach journey up to Solihull was very good and the team made good time when they arrived at Solihull borough football club. The boys looked very excited as the ground was spectacular, but disappointment set in when they found they had been sent to the wrong ground. Another 30 minutes in the coach and they arrived at Solihul borough youth development ground. Both players and parents were very despondent with the venue as the pitch was not up to a final setting for such a prestigious game.

It was agreed before kick off that roll on roll off subs could be used something that stops at u12 age group in the south, very strange decision. With arriving late and the boys a little down in the mouth they started very well with plenty of chances and the run of play in their favour. The ref made some strange decisions throughout the game especially when Chris Fagg was tackled from behind in the 21st minute, he was taken right out and knocked up into the air, laying on the ground the ref gave the free kick the other way saying he dived. Luke Coleman had a goal disallowed this came from a Nat Blanks throw Shane Spearpoint passed it on but Coleman was deemed offside, another tight call. Folkestone took the lead in the 32nd minute from a well taken strike by Chris Fagg (0 1). Folkestone delight was soon dampened as Tottington pulled one back a minute later (1 1). Justin Cheeseman, Liam Dickson, Liam Friend, & Will Dennis kept the attacking team at bay for the rest of the first half. All level at the break (1 1).

Folkestone were caught asleep as Tottington scored another straight from the start of the kickoff (2 1). Oliver waters on and Will Dennis off hoping he might bring some strength to the forward line. Minutes later another tactical change with Dan Cheeseman Chris Fagg off saw Terry Harrison and Sam Lloyd on. In the 17th minute Folkestone were awarded a free kick 25 yards out, waters strides up places the ball and blasts the ball like a rocket at the goal. The ball struck the underside of the bar and in just over the line (2 2 Terry Harrison not sure if it would count made sure with the follow up & hits the ball in but Oliver Waters takes credit for the goal. Folkestone had all of the chances but just could not find the net. All the decisions were going against them, but in true Folkestone Invicta style they conducted themselves with grace and finesse unlike Tottington who could be hear swearing and moaning all the time. At one stage the ref booked one of their players for decent and had to have words with the goalkeeper for verbal abuse to the crowd. The final goal of the game went to Tottington, this came from a very long throw, the striker had been doing these long throws all game but the ref could not see that they were foul throws with the players foot rising at the last second. Another lack of observation by the linesmen. The ball came over into the box the ball was headed on Matt Hurley tried in vain to put the ball over but was unable to keep the ball out (3 2). To add insult to injury Sam Lloyd was booked for knocking the ball out of the keepers hands.

Although the boys came away loses they were far the better footballing team on and off the pitch. They were presented with their mush league winners medals by Colin Boswell (Kent M.U.S.H league chairman) after the main presentation and he apologies to the boys for the poor venue and the poor standard of officials and was proud of the boys for representing the South of England and Kent on behalf of the league.

LIONS CLUB NATIONAL U16 FINAL - May 30
Tottington High School (Bury) v Folkestone Invicta U16's
Venue: FA Training ground, Lilleshall Hall, Newport, Shropshire.

Grateful thanks to David Bailey (a parent of Sundays U16's opposition) for providing a little information abour the team we face in the Lions Club National Final.

The team, I incorrectly described as "Bolton U16's", are actually Tottington High School from a village on the outskirts of Bury. Their progress to the final has been remarkable considering that they only normally play together 5 or 6 times a year

Like most school teams they have no financial backing, a relatively ancient kit ( although a new one is rumoured for the final) and they don't even have a playable home pitch.

For many of the boys involved in Sundays final this game is likely to be the pinnacle achievement of their footballing careers so make sure you enjoy the day. May the best team win

Fowey u16's (0) 2 - 3 (1) Folkestone Invicta u16's
The day started with the long coach journey down to Salisbury football ground, traffic was good and arrival was 1 hours before kick off 2 pm, enough time for the boys to settle and acclimatise themselves with the pitch and stadium. The travelling parents had time to relax and soak up the sun and the atmosphere. The word on the grape vine was that Fowey were very confident and were discussing where the final was being played and how they would get there. The sun was out, which was great for the spectators but did not make for great playing conditions.

Folkestone started full on from the start with most of the play in Fowey's half. Folkestone had a number of chances but could not find the net. Fowey tried but could not penetrate the formidable defence of Folkestone Liam Dickson, Justin Cheeseman, Liam friend and will Dennis were resilient and did not put a foot wrong. When goal keeper Matt Hurley was called into play he executed his duties with style and kept a clean sheet in the first half. The combination of Shane Spearpoint, Chris Fagg and Daniel Cheeseman in midfield helped control the game with some good through balls and supporting the defence. Chris Fagg seemed to be Fowey's target man in the first half by taking most of the fouls, he took this in his stride and carried on in true Folkestone Invicta spirit. With 29 minutes gone Folkestone were awarded a corner, Oliver Waters strolled over to take the dead ball, crossing the ball with his sweet left foot the ball dropped at the near post were Chris Fagg calmly slotted the ball into the net (0-1). There was a number of chances from Nat Blanks and Luke Coleman but no more goals in the first half.

With Chris Fagg off and Tim Quaye on, the second half started badly for Folkestone with fowey pulling a goal back in the first minute from the start (1-1). Folkestone not to be out done picked themselves up and started again and in the 44th minute was rewarded with a goal. Nat blanks crossed the ball Tim Quaye controlled turned and passed the ball to Luke Coleman putting the ball home in the net (1-2). 6 minutes later the fowey striker was clearly in a offside position the linesman's flag was raised and then put down, the referee allowing play to continue which caught Folkestone on the hop and scored, much to their disagreement the ref allowed the goal (2-2). At this point fowey seemed to lose the plot a little with the ref dishing out a number of yellow cards; they were getting frustrated and started making mistake after mistake. This was to Folkestone's advantage when in the 68th minute the ball was played through to Oliver Waters, he back headed the ball to Luke Coleman he calmly dribbled the ball round the keeper and scored (2-3). The crowd went wild and even the calm manager Stuart McFadden and coach Dick Parnell could hardly contain their joy. With 12 minutes left plus injury time it seemed like eternity to the final whistle, fowey had a couple of late corner which was pretty nerve racking for both players and spectators but they proved fruitless. To add to the excitement fowey went down to 9 men. Both being sent off for swearing at the ref and then at the linesman. Although terry Harrison had a pre match fitness test and was declared ok he was kept on the subs bench along with Michael Finch and Liam Smith, they still play an important part in the team. Flu struck Sam Lloyd was very much missed and the score could have been one or two goals more with his strength. The final score after 5 minutes injury time (2-3) to Folkestone.

Folkestone Invicta u16's conducted themselves with honour and grace and were a credit to their team, manager, parents and town. This was enforced by the referee congratulating them after the game on their behaviour. This victory means they are in the national final at the FA training ground Lilleshall hall Newport Shropshire against a team from Bolton this Sunday. Never before has a youth team from this area got so far in the competition this will be the pinnacle of the lads playing career lets hope they come away with a result.

Chatham u16's (0) 0 - 1(0) Folkestone Invicta u16's
Folkestone league and cup champions u16's mush league.

Both teams knew they needed a win from this game to clinch the league title. A draw would be good enough for Chatham but Folkestone had to get a result. Both sides provided end to end football and entertained the crowd throughout the game. There was plenty of chances at either end of the pitch in the first half with fruitless results. Chatham seemed to have the upper hand with the run of play and referees decisions going in Chatham's way. 0 - 0 at the break and Folkestone had the task of trying to penetrate the Chatham defense with the sun low and in their eyes. Folkestone played better football in the second half with shot after shot going wide over or saved kept the crowd cheering. Chatham seemed to get more and more frustrated with the way of play, which saw the ref dishing out 3 yellow cards to Chatham in a space of 5 minutes. Chatham content with a draw and happy just to defend but Folkestone were having none of it, and piled the pressure on. Well into injury time blanks took a long throw from the left this was flicked on by Coleman's head and then onto Waters, he swung his sweet left foot hit the ball low and hard. The goal keeper tried to get his hand to the bullet but didn't stand a chance, what a time to score Chatham had little time to come back from such a blow. 0 - 1 to Folkestone and the crowd were very happy. The ref only played 1 more minute, which meant Chatham, have come second to Folkestone in the league. This puts another bit of silverware in the cabinet for Folkestone having won the K.C.F.A cup as well. The double in their pockets and with Sundays game against Fowey from Cornwall in the Lions Club National Semi-Final, a win from this game might put them in with a chance of the treble.

Just on the stoke of half time Lloyd was brought down in the box and Coleman lined up to take the penalty. He struck it well to make it 3 - 0 at the break. The second half brought 5 goals. Ramsgate 3-2 Folkestone Invicta U16
The game started with both teams determined to score. There was end-to-end football, which made for an entertaining start. Coleman and Lloyd both could not find the net with shots going wide and over the bar. Disaster struck for Folkestone in the 27th minute when they failed to clear the loose ball in the box and Ramsgate made no mistake in scoring. Less than a minute later Hurley was found off his line and the Ramsgate forward chipped the ball over his head to put the home side 2 - 0 up. Folkestone battled on and on the stroke of half time pulled one back with a goal from Coleman (2 - 1).

The second half was played in the same vain with some good end to end football. Ramsgate scored another in the 67th minute catching Invicta`s defense asleep (3 - 1). Folkestone had their chances with more shots going wide and over and plenty of free kicks with fruitless results. Invicta entered into the last of their four games in 10 days looking to avenge their 1 - 0 defeat earlier in the season at the Westbourne Stadium. It was a hard but well fort game with Invicta nearly opening the scoring when a good shot from Oliver Waters was pushed onto the bar and went behind for a corner by the excellent Coleman in the Ashford goal. Ashford defended well getting bodies behind the ball making it very difficult for the Invicta forwards.

It was Coleman who kept Ashford in the game with a string of fine saves in the second half especially in the late stages of the game. The two teams meet again at the Westbourne on the 5th of May for the final league game of the season.

Chatham Town 1 - 3 Folkestone Invicta U18`s
Invicta continued their travels this time to Brompton. Invicta picked themselves up from their 3 - 1 defeat at the hands of Whitstable two days earlier, they opened the scoring within two minutes when they forced a corner on the right hand side which Ben Sly hit the ball to the near post and Stuart Taylor steered the ball pasted the Chatham keeper. The game could have been sewn up by half time with the Chatham keeper saving well on several occasions.

The second half was almost a carbon copy this time Oliver Waters received a through ball from Simon Rainbow who was instrumental in most of the Invicta forward play and struck the ball with his left foot past the oncoming keeper in the opening five minutes of the second half. Chatham had a good 15 minute spell as Invicta eased of the pressure and were caught napping as a low shot took a slight deflection off a defender to sneak in at the near post. Chatham boosted by the goal found Invicta`s defence of Mann, Marsh, Dunlop, Harling, Taylor very difficult to break down. Ben Luckham playing on the left wing was causing problems for the Chatham's defence all game when he hit a cross field pass and found James Everitt on the right wing who laid the ball off to Joe Neilson who with a clever little chip found Brett Ransley at the far post who then chested the ball down and he chipped the keeper. Invicta and Chatham both had plenty of chances, which made for an interesting start to the game. Hurley made some good saves to keep Invicta in the game the in the 29th minute Coleman put the ball through for Quaye his shot was parried by the keeper to Harrison's feet who made no mistake and buried the ball deep in the net. Lloyd came on for Dennis early in the second half, which added a spark to the forward line, and Fagg came on for finch to help push forward in the midfield. 10 minutes in Invicta had a corner from blanks which found sub Lloyd to put the away side 2 goal in front of the league leaders. 10 minutes later blanks battled throw the Chatham defense put the ball to super sub Lloyd who scored his second and Invicta`s third, which takes Invicta`s season total to 98. Although the game finished on a high note for Invicta. Chatham were clearly disappointed with a few words exchanged at full time and some Chatham players refusing to shake hands. Whitstable Town 3 - 1 Folkestone Invicta U18`s
Invicta travelled to Whitstable for the third time this season and this being the forth time the sides have met this season. The visitors started the better of the two and a superb strike from Ben Sly opened the scoring in the 11th minute. Whitstable pulled a goal back on the half hour mark following a good sweeping movement from the right hand side. With the score level at half time Invicta went into the second half full of confidence but within ten minutes of the restart Invicta were unlucky when Referee Pritcher awarded a harsh corner. The corner was met with a good header at the far post and the Whitstable player took the opportunity well. The visitor's battled hard to bring the game level but was dealt a cruel blow ten minutes later as an unstoppable shot hit the back of the Invicta net. Although three one down Invicta never gave up and gave the League leaders a hard fought game and not for the first time this season did the club proud.

Folkestone Invicta 2 - 0 Maidstone
The game started with the unusual full on pressure from the start from Invicta. This lead to the ball only going into Invicta`s half a few times in the first half just enough to keep keeper Matt Hurley from boredom. Invicta`s persistence could not bring them a goal With 8 corners in the first half and countless free kicks but just on the stroke of the Interval blanks crossed a perfect ball Coleman controlled and the buried the ball taking Invicta`s goals for the season to 94 and his total to 45 in 27 games. The second half was Played in the style of a cup final as both team battled to the end. Invicta had most of the Chances . Lloyd was brought down outside the box with only the keeper to beat but this only Got Maidstone a booking and the free kick was fruitless. Another superb performance from Defender Liam Friend saw two shots one save another chipped over the bar. Chris Fagg was Subbed for Spearpoint and was in the thick of the game from the start. Waters was brought On to add a little strength. Quaye was brought down and had to be taken off only to return later to the delight of the home crowd. Content with a 1 nil victory and well into injury time Invicta had another corner crossed from sub waters this found Spearpoint head who placed it low and hard away from the Maidstone keeper. The delight on managers Stuart and Dick`s face was a picture not being able to contain a smile with the victory over arch rivals Maidstone.

Bearsted 1 - 2 Folkestone Invicta U18`s

League leaders Bearsted played host to Invicta just four days after the two clashed at the Westbourne Stadium were Bearsted claimed all three points following a 2 - 0 win. Bearsted went into the game without having been defeated in the League and they could not have got off to a better start going into the lead after 2 minutes when they won a corner and the ball swung into a crowded area, there were strong appeals for handball from the Invicta defence only to see the ball bundled into the net. Invicta continued to battle hard to get back on terms and were rewarded with a free kick 15 yards outside the area and Bearsted keeper could not hold onto the initial shot from Oliver Waters and Ben Luckham followed up and slid the ball into the back of the net.

With the teams going in level at half time Invicta looked as if they we starting to get on top in the second half with the greater of the play in the Bearsted half with Chris Barton in the Bearsted goal the busier the 6`5 ft keeper pulling off two fine saves from Simon Rainbow and James Everitt. Rob Knott was a constant pain to the Bearsted defence and was booked for his troubles by at times over fussy referee D Ainsley. The break through came midway through the second half when Ben Sly shot from 30 yards on the left hand side scored a terrific goal that Thierry Henry would have been proud of that went top corner far post leaving Barton no chance. There was some good football played at both ends with Invicta clearing the ball off their line in the 35th minute and not long after they got caught when the ball hit the post and bounced into Matt Hurley's hands. Just on the stroke of half time Coleman was brought down in the box but the ref denied him the penalty. 10 minutes into the second half and Invicta got caught at the back and allowed the Kennington striker a free shot which he blasted into the roof of the net. Invicta had to Wait seventeen minutes to make it level when Fagg back headed the ball which run on for Coleman to score. Kennington were hanging on with a draw a good result but Invicta were not going to give up just minutes from the whistle Harrison clipped the ball in from a corner the ball was cleared wide back to Harrison returning the ball to the far side were Coleman chipped the ball over the keeper to put the home side in front. Invicta earned the three points which keeps them within a chance of the league.

Folkestone Invicta 3 - 1 Deal Town U18's
Invicta entertained Deal Town at the Westbourne on a sunny morning, this being the forth time the two sides have met this season. Invicta entered this game with a much depleted side because of injuries. Deal almost fell behind in the early minutes of the game when Robert Knott shot hit the side netting, it was Deal who opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Invicta keeper misjudged a low shot from Adam Hibbert that crept in by the post. Deal`s lead lasted just 2 minutes when Ben Luckham put Invicta pack on level terms with a goal similar to Hibberts the hard pitch making difficult for both keepers. With six minutes gone in the second half Robert Knott made himself some space and drilled home a left footed drive. Invicta started to open up the solid defence of Deal with Ben Sly and Tom Harling coming close to increasing the score but had to wait until the 60th minute when James Everitt tucked the ball away following some neat passing between Simon Rainbow and Robert Knott which split Deals defence and Everitt just had the keeper to beat, stand in manager Denis Hunt was pleased with the boys performance.

Folkestone Invicta 2 - 2 Ramsgate U18`s
After 180 minutes of football in the league you can't separate the two sides. Invicta went into this tie with a much depleted team. As seems the normal when playing on the Polo Ground the wind got up and the rain followed. Invicta started the game with the strong wind in their favour and kicking down the slope. Joe Neilson had a very good chance to open the scoring as early as the 3rd minute only to see Ramsgate 1st team keeper Pilcher push the ball over the bar. The god's of fortune much have been with keeper Pilcher for ten minutes later he was lucky to stay on the pitch after a two footed lunge tackle on Tom Harling in the penalty area, to the relief of Ramsgate, supporters and players not only did referee Hart not book Pilcher but gave a free kick outside the area, from the free kick Rob Knott hit the bar. Neilson broke the deadlock in the 42nd when he cut in from the left hand side and beat Pilcher at the near post. Ramsgate equalized in the 50th minute when a long kick from Pilcher assisted by the strong wing bounced 10 yards outside the area and Ross Howells just beating the oncoming Invicta Keeper Kieran Mann to the ball to head home, the goal was similar to that of Sam Marsh earlier in the season. Invicta regained the lead in the 61st when a cross from Ben Sly was chested down by James Everitt who rounded Pilcher to slot home Invicta had several more chances to put the game out of reach when a cruel bit of luck in the 66th minute saw Ramsgate equalize for the second time in the game when a long rang effort went between keepers Mann legs.

Folkestone Invicta 2 - 1 Bearsted U16`s - K.C.F.A Semi-Final
Invicta started of badly by going behind within the first two minutes. They kept the pressure on and should have had at least 4 goals but just couldn't find the net. With 26 minutes gone Luke Coleman tried to put the ball round the keeper but didn't strike the ball with enough force the ball found it's way into Sam Lloyd's path only to find himself facing away from the goal he quickly did a 180 degree turn to strike the ball firmly into the net to make things equal at the interval. In the second half Invicta should have put more goals away but once Again just couldn't find the net. It looked like extra time when Liam Friend was brought down on the edge of the box and was awarded a penalty, Luke Coleman converted this to put Invicta in front. Ollie Waters was denied another penalty minutes later when he was dragged back by the shirt in the box. With a depleted side with injury this was a good result which takes them into the final of the K.C.F.A Cup Final. The only negative side of the game was when Terry Harrison was booked for a perfectly innocent tackle.

Invicta not only lost the game but also the 100% league record on Sunday which was always going to be a difficult game following the teams heroic display four days earlier in the John Ullman Cup Semi-Final. There was no doubt that that game would start with the heavy snow falling just before kick off. Any hopes of a good football match disappeared as quickly as the snow, with both sets of player finding it difficult to keep their feet Invicta almost grabbed the initiative midway in the first half only to see a fine save from the Ashford goal keeper. Shortly after Invicta keeper Kieran Mann pulled off a terrific double save which would have had Tv pundits raving about it. All square at half time.

The dead lock was broken in the 75th minute when a shot was initially blocked by Mann only to see the ball canon off his legs hit the under side of the bar and bounce down and come back into play, the ball was adjudge to have crossed the line by referee assistant Mr Richards despite protest from the Invicta side. Substitute James Everitt nearly equalised 10 minutes later only to see the Ashford keeper pull off another good save.

Invicta Started full on again and within 20 minutes Fagg had scored. With some good football from Both teams, but Invicta efforts paid off with Fagg scoring on the stroke of half time.

Fitness and strength played a major part in Invicta performance in the second half Which saw another 4 goals going in 2 from Coleman 1 from Blanks and a rare goal from Friend who says defenders can't score, this will undoubtedly boost Invicta goal difference and Put them back within the grasp of the league with Ashford beating Maidstone last weekend And only lower league teams to play surely they must stand a chance. The only thing that Spoilt the game was the linesman thought Luke Coleman spent the entire time on the pitch in An offside position, much to his annoyance put quite funny to watch.

Whilst the 1st team were enjoying a 6 1 romp at Dartford Invicta were tested by the visitors Cray Valley who have already reached the London Cup Final and second in the Northern section of the Kent Youth League. In fact it was Cray who opened the scoring in the 19th following a speculative shot from twenty yards out which eluded Invicta keeper Kieran Mann. Both teams had chances to add to the scoring with both teams scrambling the ball clear on numerous occasions. Cray went into the interval with the goal advantage. Invicta`s defence of Sam marsh, Will Dunlop, Stuart Taylor, and wing backs James Everitt, and Rob Knott continued to frustrate Cray with Taylor and Dunlop having an outstanding game`s with Simon Rainbow and Ben Lindsey and the tireless Ben Sly battling hard in midfield leaving the successful strike partnership of Ollie Waters and Joe Neilson causing problems up front. Cray looked very dangerous at set pieces but Keeper Kieran Mann marshalled his defence well.

Manager Mick Dix was forced in making changes in the second half with Neilson and Sly both running themselves into the ground and were replaced by Brett Ransley and Ben Luckham the game seemed to ebbing away from Invicta with only added injury time left on the watch when a ball was put into the area and following a scramble James Everitt won the ball and managed to take it around the keeper and looked as if he had taken to much time slotted in the back of the net. Cray went straight for goal from the restart and forced a corner the ball was laid back and a fierce shot was smashed away on the goal line by Everitt shortly afterwards referee Neil Conlon blew for full time.

The second time this season that Invicta had been involved in the golden goal and were determined not go out as they had in the quarter final. Rob Knott was replaced by Chris Morgan in the first period of extra time. Late in the second half Ollie Waters came close following a free kick only to see Cray keeper saving low to his right but it certainly was not all one way with Cray pushing for the deceive goal with the dreaded penalties looming. Cray pushed everybody forward and some great defending from Invicta saw the ball played out to midfielder Lindsey who delivered a precise pass to Waters on the left wing and Waters cut in beating the last defender for pace Cray keeper came racing out of his goal to narrow the angle and Waters drove the ball across goal into the far side of the net.

Whilst the first team were enjoying their 3 - 0 victory against Maidstone the under U18`s echoed the feat with a excellent discipline performance against Chatham as you would expect the home side started the stronger of the two Invicta seemed content to sit back and sound out the strengths and weaknesses of this Chatham team who had beaten Sittingbourne 6 - 2 three days earlier. As the game progressed Invicta started to push forward more and in the 37th minute the deadlock was broken when a ball was delivered from the left wing to find the head of right wing back James Everitt who headed back across goal for Left wing back Ben Luckham to slot home. Invicta had to wait a further 5 minutes to increase the scoring when a 25 yard effort from Simon Rainbow struck a fierce right footed drive into the top corner. A minute later Joe Neilson was brought down inside the penalty area by the keeper who was fortunate not to be booked, it was not the first or last time during the game that Neilson had been fouled. James Everitt took the penalty and slotted the ball low into the left hand corner in the 43rd minute.

The second half was similar to the first half with Invicta content to sit and hold. Chatham only had one chance of note which Matt Hurley pulled off an excellent point blank save pushing the ball over the bar. Manager Mick Dix was pleased with the good disciplined performance. Weather permitting the under 18`s are home to League favourites Bearsted this Sunday 11am Kick Off at the Westbourne Stadium.

RESULT
Folkestone Invicta 6 - 0 Deal Town U18`s K.C.F.A Cup 2nd Round
REPORT
The game was effectively over within 40 minutes of this cup tie with Ollie Waters opening the score within the first 3 minutes when Joe Neilson pulled the ball across the goal for Waters to bury the ball in the net. Invicta had to wait a further 15 minutes before adding to the score when Neilson with his back to goal turned and hit a half volley into the roof of the net. Deal Town continued to try and get back into the game and in the 31st minute Robert Knott put a through ball for Waters to dispatch into the far corner of the net. Waters hat trick was completed in the 40 minute when Neilson delivered a perfect ball from the right wing for waters to smash home. It was Waters time to turn provider when his shot was palm out only to find Neilson who hammered the ball home in the 44th minute.

Waters wrapped up the scoring in the 50th minute. Invicta had several chances to increase the lead but Deal keeper John Marshell foiled Ping, Knott, Ransley, Sly and almost last knockings when a great ball was put through by Rainbow to Everitt who looked certain to score but for Marshell gating down well to his right. This was certainly not a two man show the balls provided by the defenders and midfield were excellent and would have any striker thinking Christmas had come early.

Tunbridge Wells 1 - 4 Folkestone Invicta U18`s (League Cup 2nd Round)
Invicta travelled to Tunbridge Wells in the 2nd round of the League Cup after a three week lay off. Tunbridge nearly opened the scoring with a well taken corner when Invicta keeper palmed the ball away from close range. In the 15th minute Invicta opened the scoring when Robert Knott fired a low shot at the near post which was cleared only as far as the edge of the penalty box to Ben Sly who slammed the ball into the back of the net from goal scorer to provider as Sly took the corner after good build up play from Frazer Duncan and Joe Neilson. Sly delivered the perfect corner for James Everitt to convert with a diving header in the 26th minute. Invicta went in with a two goal advantage at half time.

Tunbridge came out the stronger in the second half, lack of match practice was starting to take it's toll and substitutions were made and Invicta seemed to take their foot off the pedal Tunbridge up to this point didn't look like they would score but were awarded a penalty for hand ball which seemed a little harsh which was converted in the 78th minute this goal lifted Tunbridge and they took control of the game but the game took another turn when over fussy Referee Hewitt sent of a Tunbridge defender off for descent and awarded Invicta a free kick ten yards into the Tunbridge half which Sam Marsh delivered into the Tunbridge area for Joe Neilson to prod home in the 92nd minute and Neilson added a fourth in the 93rd when he chased down a through ball and the Tunbridge keeper rushed out of his goal and kicked the ball straight at Neilson and the ball span into the air over the keepers head into the net.

Folkestone Invicta 2 - 1 Bromley U16`s (Challenge Cup 2nd Round)
The first half saw both teams trying hard to find the net but it was a scoreless 40 minutes. There was some excellent football played by Bromley's quick forward line but Invicta defended well and kept them at bay, this was also helped by Matt Hurley who made some excellent saves.

The second half didn't start to well for Invicta as Bromley scored soon after kick off, this seamed to give Invicta a wake up call and the pace of the game was stepped up a gear. Invicta were determined to score with a cross from Liam Dickson only to be headed over the bar by Sam Lloyd who was having an excellent game. then another cross from Tim Quaye found Sam Lloyd again only to put the ball wide. Soon after Lee Wells was replaced by Chris Fagg, Invicta were awarded a free kick just outside the box. Terry Harrison stepped up to take the kick which found Chris Fagg who buried the ball in the back of the net to make the score level. twenty minutes later Chris Fagg crossed the ball to Sam Lloyd who had no problem in putting the ball in the net to seal Invicta`s victory in this very tough cup tie.

Very much a one sided game with Folkestone letting in two goals from defensive errors. Matt Hurley made two terrific saves to keep the score from going any higher. Will Dennis and Liam Dickson play an excellent game with Dickson scoring twice. The midfield held its own with Harrison in command. Sam Lloyd assisted with two of the goals but was taken off at half time Coleman added four goals to list while waters score three two of which were a rare right footed volleys from the striker. Quaye came on at half time returning from illness and played well and scored. New Romney although had 11 goals put passed them still battled right up to the end. Folkestone Invicta 2 - 0 Ashford Town U16`s
The game started well for Invicta with a quick goal for Luke Coleman straight from kick off. This seemed to put Ashford on a daunting task of trying to recover as well as play in weather that was against both sides. Invicta had most of the play which paid off as waters scored just on the half time to put Invicta two in front. In the second half both teams had their chances Ashford's best was when Will Dennis bought down Ashford's forward for a penalty. This was struck hard and low to the left of the keeper, but Matt Hurley managed to just get a hand to it and stopped the ball on the line. The grueling wind and rain didn't make it a magical game to watch but the result was fair and Ashford didn't play like a team at the bottom of the league.

Invicta were on top from the start with the wind behind them. Luke Jones opened the scoring with a superb free kick from 25 yards that flew into the top corner. the second came soon after when Phil Hayes cut in from the left and let fly with his right foot. Invicta stated to believe in themselves and the third came when Josh Burchell drilled home from outside the area. Invicta conceded a goal just before half time.

Invicta needed to defend against the wind, but soon found themselves only one goal up after another good strike from Tonbridge. Invicta responded quickly and went straight up the other end with Josh Burchell scoring his second of the day. Invicta made the game safe after the lively Charlie Partridge hit the post and Dan Garrity cooly followed up. The whole team performed very well in difficult conditions.

Invicta trailed 2 - 0 at half time, this score in all honesty flattered the visitors Invicta could have been 3 up in the first 15 minutes Milton were spared by a ball coming off the post following a Jason Ping effort, Ben Sly had a ball cleared of the line and James Everitt had a diving header well saved. Invicta were stunned in the 16 Minute when Sage opened the scoring for Milton following a defensive mix up. Milton scored a 2nd in a matter of a minute with a goal from Avron-Cotton with a header following a corner. Despite all their efforts it looked like being one of those games.

After a few words of wisdom from stand in managers Neil Cugley & Denis Hunt at half time Invicta pulled a goal back from Ben Lindsey who spotted Johnson the Milton`s goalkeeper way of his line to hit a 35 yard strike in the 60th minute a second was then added by substitute Simon Rainbow with a low drive at the far post in the 65th minute. With Invicta pushing for the winning goal they were rewarded with a 75th minute strike from Ollie Waters which took a deflection leaving Johnson no chance. Jason Ping rounded of the scoring after a through ball found Brett Ransley who unselfishly squared the ball for Jason Ping to waltz past the keeper to slot home in the 89th minute.

Folkestone Invicta 2 - 2 Whitstable Town U18`s
Invicta played host to Kent Youth Division South leaders at the Westbourne Stadium on a blustery Sunday morning. Following on from their spirited display on Tuesday against Gravesend & Northfleeet, Invicta pushed hard to open the scoring only to fall a goal behind in the 20th minute when Gary Sayer headed home following a cross from the right hand side. Simon Rainbow levelled the score in 31st minute with a low drive into the far corner of the net. Whitstable restored their lead in the 34th minute with a goal from striker Ritchie Stunt after he got stabbed the ball home.

With both team cancelling each other out in defence each team had little chances in the second half. What turned out to be an inspired substitution when manager Mick Dix brought on James Everitt who latched on to a through ball and took it to the right of the Whitstable keeper and was brought down inside the area. After what seemed an age referee Dale Mackett consulted with his referee assistant and pointed to the penalty spot. James Everitt elected to take the penalty himself and placed the ball low into the far corner. Both teams pressed for a winning goal but even with eight minutes added time neither could break the deadlock.

The game started badly for Invicta with Maidstone catching the defense asleep and putting themselves in front within the 2 minutes. This early shock inspired Invicta and battled back with more determination than seen this season. Invicta had plenty of chances but struggled to find the net until Like Coleman leveled the score their collected effort was rewarded with both teams going into the interval with the scores level.

Nat Blanks had a magnificent game by shutting down Maidstone`s right hand side and as did Tim Quale playing out of position on the left. Invicta now had the majority of the chances but the winner was not to be. Maidstone played the last 20 minutes with only ten men following an injury and having used all their subs. The draw meant that Invicta are now 4th in the league.

Dover played host to Invicta under 18`s on a sunny but windy day at Elevington on Sunday morning. This game was typical local derby with neither team giving much away, the first half was limited to one clear chance when Ben Sly shot hit the side netting from a very tight angle.

The second half was still a close affair and it wasnt until midway through the half when Dover keeper Barry Carr fumbled the initial shot and Jason Ping took the ball around Carr only to see his shot go just past the post. Minutes later Robert Knott could have opened the scoring but failed to find the back of the net with a well struck shot. With less than 5 minutes remaining it looked if Invicta would pay heavy for the earlier missed chances when Referee Gavin Hoare awarded a penalty in Dovers favour when the Invicta defender and Dovers forward Chris Sundberg got tangled up. The penalty seemed a little harsh but Invicta Kieran Mann got down well to his right to push the ball out and the ball fell to the impressive Sundberg who smashed the ball with a terrific volley only to see Mann equal to his effort to palm it away for a corner.

Invicta soon doubled the score when Tom Clark followed up after Josh Burchell saw his penalty saved. It's the first time Invicta have kept a clean sheet, with the defence playing well and the keeper a virtual spectator. The most pleasing of all was the players never got involved in any of the off the ball incidents.

FA Youth Cup (1st Qualifying Round)

Camberley Town 5-2 Folkestone Invicta U18's
For the second week in a row Mick Dix took his young charges on their travels this time to Camberley in Surrey. It was Camberley who opened the scoring in the 25th minute from a looping header from forward Dan Lucas. Invicta battled hard and had to wait until the 43rd minute when Ollie Waters was brought down just outside the area. Ollie Waters took the free kick himself smashing the ball into the back of the net leaving Camberley Keeper Carl Frampton little chance.

The age difference started to tell in the second half with Dan Lucas scoring his second on the night. Camberleys age and physical strength beginning to take its toll but Invicta weren't going to lie down quietly Rob Knott brought the game to 2 - 2 with a header from a corner in the 57th minute. The decisive turning point in the game came in the 62nd when James Everitt`s near post clearance had been judged that the ball had crossed the line despite their protest the referee referred to his assistant who indicated a goal. Invicta continued to battle looking for a equalising goal but Camberley were awarded a free kick just outside the area for what appeared to be a good tackle. Paul Clement took the free kick with Mathew Hurley getting down low seemed to have the shot covered when the ball hit a bump on the bone hard ground and flew over the hapless Hurly. Dominique Defour added a 5th in the 76th minute when a corner from the left was driven low hit the Camberley player heal and went in. Camberley now play either Gravesend & Northfleet Or Wick in the next round.

F.A Youth Cup (Preliminary Round)

Saltdean United 2 Folkestone Invicta U18`s 3
Folkestone Invicta travelled to Saltdean (Nr Brighton) with what must be the youngest squad in the competition the eldest being 16. The game started brightly with Invicta starting the stronger of the two teams. The rock hard pitch made it difficult for both teams. The first half ended with neither team able to break the deadlock. The old saying a game of two halves certainly applied last night very few chances were created in the 1st halve but what a contrast 2nd halve. Rob Knott broke the deadlock in the 60th minute a left foot shoot from 30yards out leaving Richard Ogoe Saltdean keeper no chance, Ben Sly added a second with a low drive into the bottom corner of the net in the 62nd minute. Both sides were creating chances Saltdean won a corner in the 65th minute which Wesley Simmonds converted with a header. Invicta pushed for a third goal and were unlucky when they had two goal line clearances within a minute and also hit both uprights but Saltdean hit on the counter and won another corner which Invicta failed to clear and Joe Palmer managed to scramble in on the 73rd minute with extra time looming manager Mick Dix brought on Terry Harrison who headed passed the stranded Ogoe in the 83rd minute. Invicta rewarded with a away tie against Camberley Town F.C. which must be played by the 6th September.
