Deal Town Rangers 2-4 Folkestone Invicta youth

Folkestone Invicta travelled to face a strong Deal side who were coming off of the back of a ten one win.  Folkestone started fast and very bright as they looked to gain an early advantage.  And within three minutes Invicta took the lead thanks to a thunderbolt drive from the excellent AIDEN BOOTH.  Soon after Invicta doubled their lead Thanks to some great individual skill from CONNOR COYNE who converted following a sharp touch and turn.  Folkestone controlled the game in the midfield with man of the match SAM HUNNISETT picking out player from all angles.  After 20 minutes Folkestone were another in front following a well worked corner forcing a Deal player to turn the ball in to his own net.  However sloppy defending let the home side back in just before half time and the score was 3-1.  In the second half Folkestone continued to create many chances with the front three and the midfield all working well.  It was very soon that Invicta made sure of the points with some great passing play finished in style by SAM WILSON who lobbed the keeper from 12 yards.  The home side did score again thanks to an unfortunate own goal by the otherwise excellent KIERAN SANGER however this was a mere consolation for the hosts as Folkestone turned in their best footballing performance and team performance of the season so far.

Folkestone Invicta Youth vs Bocca Juniors 4-

Folkestone looked to get back to winning ways against old rivals and often bogey side Bocca and started well creating several good opportunities.  Folkestone continued to press and missed many opportunities that should have been easily taken.  This seemed to give Bocca a lift and towards the end of the half they took the lead due to a lack of defensive concentration.  In the second half Invicta continued to dominate and waste chances letting the away side off time and time again.  Man of the match TONY DUNHAM back to his best continued to create chances and was only denied by the visiting goalkeeper who was Bocca’s best player by far.  However 20 minutes from the end the superb DUNHAM opened the scoring with a rocket of a strike which looped over the keeper and found the net off the underside of the bar.  This rubbed off on others and it wasn’t long before DUNHAM crossed for top scorer CONNOR COYNE to tap in from 6 yards.  Soon after A DUNHAM corner caused problems and gave new boy SAM WILSON a chance to open his account with a cool finish inside the box.  With minutes to go Folkestone won a freekick and who else but DUNHAM provided for SOM THAPA to head over the keeper for his first goal for the club also.  All in all a well deserved three points for Invicta running out 4-1 winners in the end.

Betteshanger c/w vs Folkestone Invicta Youth – 3-2

Folkestone went in to this away game after a week off against undefeated Betteshanger.  The game started very evenly however a The hosts took the lead soon on.  It wasn’t too long and Betts doubled their as a half volley hit a rut and bounced vertically up over stand in keeper JACK DIWELL who had no chance.  To their credit Folkestone never gave up and scored after some scrappy play gave SAM HUNNISETT a yard to tuck home.  Folkestone came out for the second half looking much improved and dominated periods but failed to capitalise on the odd opportunity to level.  It was the home side who restored the two goal advantage thanks to some half hearted defending.  However Invicta continued to press and debutant ADAM JONES pulled a goal back with a thunderbolt of a strike.  Unfortunately for the Invicta this was too little too late and the game ended 3-2 to Betteshanger.

Folkestone Invicta Vs Margate

Folkestone and Margate were involved in a seven goal rollercoaster of a game at Cheriton Road this Sunday. The Home side started a little off the pace and found it difficult to fashion any meaningful moves in the early stages. They were punished on the ten minute mark when they failed to clear a corner and an unmarked Margate player lashed a fierce shot from the edge of the box into the top corner. Invicta eventually got into the game and started to exert some pressure on the visiting defence. With ten minutes to go to half time, the Back & Ambers were awarded a penalty. Up stepped Sam Puxley to thump the spot kick beyond the keeper’s dive. It looked like the teams would be reaching the break on level terms but, straight from the restart, Folkestone won the ball and Curtis Hill powered through the Margate defence to slide it past the on-coming keeper.

Folkestone began the second half a bit on the back foot as Margate threatened early on. However, it was the Home side who went further ahead. Jake Andrew picked up the ball and jinked through the Margate defenders. His shot was deflected upwards, Hill’s header hit the bar and Andre Torto was on hand to slot home the rebound. It looked as if Folkestone had wrapped up the points, but five minutes later Margate pulled one back when Invicta once again failed to clear their lines. The Visitors were now on a roll and drew level shortly afterwards. Worse was to come when, just before the end, Margate wrapped up the points as Folkestone allowed an unmarked Margate player a free header in the six yard box.

FINAL RESULT :   Folkestone Invicta 3 , Margate 4

Folkestone Invicta Youth vs Victoria Dynamo

Folkestone looked to claim another three points in this local derby against a well organised Victoria Dynamo side.  Victoria started the brighter and for the first ten minutes dominated play.  However Folkestone soon settled in to their stride and took the lead after a well worked set piece found Sean Churchyard at the back post who forced the ball home.  Folkestone soon doubled the lead with Connor Coyne smashing a volley in to the top corner after some good work from the wing.  Folkestone then got a third which was converted in style by the lively Tony Dunham

Before half time Victoria pulled one back and the game was tense again.  In the second half Folkestone continued to play some quality one touch football and were soon another goal ahead thanks to top scorer Connor Coyne.  Four more goals were added over the course of the second half with Sean Churchyard grabbing another, skipper Luke Elliot and the impressive Kieran Sanger scoring two good goals.

Again another pleasing result for Folkestone who now look back to their best.

Folkestone Invicta Vs Dartford Town

Dartford were the visitors to the Cheriton Road ground in the first round of the Challenge Cup. After two weeks without a competitive game, Invicta were short of match practice and likely to be a little rusty. So it proved, with only 5 minutes on the clock, the Home defence were caught out by a ball over the top. A Dartford striker powered through to reach it first and lob it over the advancing keeper. The Black & Ambers rallied and worked hard to get back into the game. They matched Dartford for much of the half, but couldn’t deliver that decisive final ball. Despite their efforts, Invicta found themselves further behind 10 minutes before the break when the visitors broke down the left. The resulting cross was superbly met on the half volley and the ball flew into the top corner. It looked desperate for the Home side as the second half got underway but, within five minutes, Sam Puxley latched onto a lose ball just inside the box and slotted a shot just inside the far post. Invicta then enjoyed a period of ascendancy as they pressed forwards and created some promising attacking moves.

They were eventually rewarded with a penalty when Puxley was brought down in the area, and he duly dispatched the spot kick to bring the scores level. However, Dartford regrouped and, within five minutes, were back ahead. It was one of their forwards who was quickest to react to a loose ball inside the six yard box to tap home. Indeed, they could have had another couple shortly afterwards had it not been for good saves by Owen Ridley. Folkestone continued to compete but could not find a reply and Dartford put the result beyond doubt just before the whistle with a powerful shot into the top corner from the edge of the area.

FINAL RESULT :   Folkestone Invicta 2 , Dartford 4

Fokestone Invicta vs St Margarets – 09/09/07        Score 1-2

Folkestones opening game of the season against local rivals St Margarets promised to be an exciting fixture and this game did not disappoint.  Folkestone started brightly with new signings Som Thapa & Kieran Sanger providing the side with a new battling quality that has been missing in previous seasons.  Folkestone looked comfortable until mid way through the first half when the St Margarets defender scored an unmarked header from a corner.  5 minutes later another defensive lapse in concentration allowed the Saints to double their lead.  However at Half time Folkestone were only 2-1 down thanks to a Lewis Brown goal on the stroke of half time.  In the second half Folkestone pressed hard and caused problems from set pieces and good flowing counter attacks.  However the ball just would not find the net and the game finished 2-1 to St Margarets where Folkestone seemingly deserved at least a point.

Trinity vs Folkestone Invicta – 16/09/07              score 1-2

Folksetones first away game of the season was against champions Trinity.  On a very warm and very windy day Folkestone had to dig deep to carve out a result and took the lead inside 5 minutes with a slick attacking move from defence to midfield unlocking the door for Aiden Booth to slot home from 8 yards.  However the home side were soon level due to some sloppy defending and the score was back level.  Mid way through the first half Folkestone regained the lead thanks to a well worked set piece which was coolly converted by Connor Coyne.  The second half was a very physical affair with Folkestone failing to convert some good opportunities to kill off the game.  However the lads dug deep and hung on till the final whistle with every player turning out a man of the match performance and earning an outstanding and well deserved victory.

Folkestone Invicta Vs Chatham Town

Invicta’s opening fixture of the new campaign pitted them against the reigning champions in the Kent Youth League. Having lost against Chatham on the previous four occasions, the Black & Ambers were understandably a little anxious as the teams lined up for the start. With the sun shining strongly, the conditions were going to be as tough as the opposition. Folkestone started brightly and seemed to have shrugged off any pre-match nerves. They were working hard to win the ball and enjoyed the better of the possession for a considerable part of the first half. It was the Home side who created the best chances and could have been two ahead before André Torto fashioned a great opening for himself just inside the box and was desperately unlucky to see his effort rebound off the far post.

As the first half wore on, Chatham started to test Folkestone’s defence a bit more and, on a couple of occasions Owen Ridley had to be quick off his line to clear the danger. Invicta looked to be tiring a little and one or two gaps began to appear. So, when the half-time whistle blew, there were probably a few sighs of relief at the prospect of a few minutes rest. Nevertheless, Folkestone could be justly disappointed that they did not finish the half a goal or two ahead, having been the better of the two teams for much of the first 35 minutes.

After the restart, the Home side continued to test Chatham with some promising attacking play. However, it was the visitors who took the lead ten minutes into the half when they were awarded a somewhat generous penalty, which was summarily dispatched into the back of the net. It was a cruel blow after Charlie Simms and Alex Lamb, in the centre of defence, had managed to deflect everything Chatham had to offer in open play until that moment. Folkestone did not let it dishearten them. They continued to attack in search of the equalizer. It seemed not to be Invicta’s day as Chatham, once again, were fortunate indeed when Sam Puxley was brought down inside the box, only for the referee to wave play on. However, Folkestone did eventually get a much deserved equalizer with ten minutes to go.

It was Puxley again who pounced on a loose ball and lashed a fierce shot into the back of the net, leaving the keeper rooted to the spot. All-in-all a very encouraging performance by the Black & Ambers who worked hard for each other all over the park, ably lead by Chris Cardon who played a very good captain’s role throughout. Chatham were reduced to playing the long-ball game towards the end, and it was Folkestone who looked the more likely winners, which was a testament to their fitness as well as ability.

FINAL RESULT :   Folkestone Invicta 1 , Chatham Town 1
