Burch the star in opening day win

Invicta again overcame one of their more credible rivals for promotion in a fine 2-1 win at the newly christened Fullick's Stadium on the opening day of the Ryman One season.

The Kent side have got the better of the Rebels more often than not in recent seasons and deserved more than the 1-0 half-time lead that action-man Josh Burchell gave them with a cool finish after Stuart King put him clear four minutes before the break.

Folkestone could easily have gone in further in front but Roland Edge's effort was controversially ruled out for offside on the last kick of the first 45 minutes.

Worthing levelled tihings up not long after the break but within minutes Ratty Everitt headed home a fine cross from half-time substitute Vinnie Philpott and though the Rebels had their moments Invicta still looked the better side.

Burchell was chopped down on yet another superb forward run but the referee somehow ruled the offence had been outside the box.

But Folkestone saw the game out to claim three fully deserved points in some of the hottest conditions we've ever known.
