Invicta 3-1 Canterbury City

Folkestone Invicta won their first home pre-season friendly of thesummer as a late penalty and an own goal finally broke Canterbury’s resistanceat Cheriton Road on Tuesday night.
Youngster Ryan Philpott had given Invicta a first half lead, only forAlex Nelson to equalise before half time.
The scores remained level until the 84th minute when DarrenMARSDEN converted a penalty after a foul by substitute Tom Willett on Invictasubstitute Cade Mortimer.
And it was 3-1 in the 90th minute when Marsden played theball across the penalty area and it was turned into his own goal by Canterburyright back Ryan ANDREWS at the far post.
Invicta had brought Philpott into the starting line up and the homeside started well as Marsden broke down the left hand side and Philpottthreatened down the middle and shot at goalkeeper Matt Lamprell within theopening ten minutes.
At the other end, Justin Ascheri shot wide from the left hand side andNelson ran forward and shot at Invicta goalkeeper Jack Delo.
The home side went close in the 29th minute when JamesEveritt headed over a Josh Burchell corner from the left.
And it was soon PHILPOTT who opened the scoring in the 35thminute with a left-footed strike into the top corner of the net.
Canterbury responded as Delo touched over for a corner after Ascherisent a ball over from the right.
Invicta threatened again a minute later when Frankie Chappell got awayat the far post but headed Darren Smith’s free kick from the left wide.
There was still time for Delo to hold a well-struck shot from theright to deny Canterbury captain Kane Rice before half time.
An early second half substitution saw Richard Atkins replace PaulJones but come on as a central defender, with Chappell moving forward to jointhe attack.
Marsden hit a free kick wide from the right after a handball byAndrews and Chappell headed into the ground and over after a Smith corner fromthe right on the hour mark.
There were chances at both ends in the 66th minute as AlexWough shot wide from the left hand side and Marsden hit a snap shot just wideof the post.
Chappell was close again with a delicate 68th minute chipfrom the right and Lamprell touched over an Everitt free kick two minutes laterafter a foul by substitute Jake Gess on Burchell.
Burchell corners from the left presented Invicta with two furtherchances as Chappell hooked over in the 71st minute and Everittside-footed against the crossbar six minutes later.
Second half substitutions gave home supporters a first look atyoungsters Joe Lester, Casey Williams (wrongly listed as Rowen in Saturday’steam sheet at Deal) and Owain Boughtwood.
Lester was close in between Invicta’s second and third goals when hetouched an 87th minute chance wide of the far post from close rangewhen Marsden played the ball across from the left hand bye line.
Luke Webb played for Canterbury here but has also signed dualregistration forms for Invicta for the coming season.
