Versatile singer REBECCA ROBINSON performs a benefit night for Folkestone Invicta Football Club at Stripes in Cheriton Road on Friday February 6th. Rebecca is a classically-trained singer with over ten years' performing experience and a varied and extensive repertoire. She performs anything from a classical aria to a contemporary ballad and these performances are delivered through a state-of-the-art BOSE system, for the ultimate in amplification and sound quality.
The hugely talented Rebecca also performs beautifully-crafted songs from the most enduring Broadway and West End shows.
“What a voice! Rebecca was such a hit last year that we had her back in-between Christmas and the New Year” – Broome Park Golf and Country Club.
The show starts at 8pm.
The Lone Star Comedy Club stages a fundraiser for Folkestone Invicta Football Club at Stripes Club in Cheriton Road on Friday February 13 th with ALISTAIR BARRIE, MARC LUCERO and compere KEVIN PRECIOUS.
Actor and stand-up ALISTAIR BARRIE first rose to prominence with his sell-out 2002 debut Edinburgh show The Uncertainty Principle. Having taken a year out from Fringe madness to get married in Ireland (for which he received lots of new material and some Waterford Glass), Alistair continued to consolidate his position in 2003 as one of the rising stars of the national and international circuit, with acclaimed performances at both the Reading and Leeds festivals and headlining shows in Jakarta and Singapore. Appearing soon on BBC 7's Spanking New, Alistair has also performed throughout the UK and Ireland and as far afield as Amsterdam, Brussels, the Channel Islands, Sydney and Melbourne.
Throughout 2003-04, Alistair also appeared in a high profile advertising campaign across Europe and Asia as the face of Avaya, market leader in the worldwide telecommunications industry.
Recent global events have inspired a wide range of subject matter for this highly topical comedian, who can nonetheless ‘drop the highbrow to the gutter in the draw of a breath' (Metro) when the need arises. Combining a wide range of material and an easy rapport with any audience continues to make Alistair ‘a name to look out for' (BBC GLR).
“Brilliantly funny” – The Guardian.
A quirky and funny thinker, MARC LUCERO's brilliantly inventive gags have very little fat on them. He is a bit of a slow burner, but aided by an inalienable skill with language, he expertly conjures up the most ridiculous of images – yet they are all based on sturdy observations, further heightening their impressive effect. Much of his material covers his own encroaching middle age, yet it always surprises, never going quite where you expect. Combined with some equally imaginative topical humour, this makes for a classy and original routine. Lucero is mainly found in London's smaller clubs, but this undiscovered comic master is surely deserving of a much wider audience.
KEVIN PRECIOUS has had something of a long and varied career in the business of show, making his first tentative foray into the world of entertainment as a teenage bass playing dirt bag in the working men's clubs of that northern metropolis, Hull.
Venturing south, he continued his musical adventures in the Big Smoke, playing in all manner of different outfits, the culmination of which saw him perform at the legendary Ronnie Scott's on a couple of occasions. He also managed to gain experience playing abroad in places as far flung as New York and Reykjavik, as well as extensive tour of Japan.
During the 1990s, Kevin set up a ‘Pop quiz' in a trendy boozer in Camden, which rapidly became laden with celebrities and culminated in him being asked to organise and compere the NME's first national pop quiz. It was these events that would later inspire a move into comedy. Sometime thereafter he took the plunge.
To date, Kevin has performed full sets at many of the top clubs throughout London.
Having lived in Brighton for some time now, Kevin has been involved in the organisation and presenting of two series of ‘House of Fun' for Meridien TV, as well as compering the quarter final of the BBC new acts competition for four consecutive years of gigs locally.
More recently, he has performed sets at the Birmingham Glee club, as well as compering the Cardiff Glee. He also has a degree in Religious Studies.
“Kevin's stage charisma and poise set him head and shoulders above the previous acts.” – The Times.
“If he were any more laid back he'd fall over – we fell over laughing.” – Evening Standard.
Begun in 2004, the Lone Star Comedy Club has been bringing quality live acts to the town for over five years now and hosts its regular shows at the Lanterns in Folkestone on the last Saturday of each month.
Visit www.lonestarcomedy.co.uk. Doors open at 8pm, with the comedy starting at 8.30pm. |
