Invicta boss Neil Cugley spoke to www.folkestoneinvicta.co.uk first thing this morning to say attacking midfielder Jimmy Corbett has left the Club by mutual consent.

Cugs said, “Finances remain tight and so we have to be very careful and do what is right for the Football Club. Jimmy also has to look after himself and we thank him for what he has done for the Club and wish him all the best in the future.”

Outside sources revealed interest in the player from Whitstable Town a few weeks back although it remains to be seen whether this will now be pursued.

“He’s had his problems with injuries and as a result hasn’t always been available and so it has got to the stage where we think it suits both parties. As a manager I’m disappointed in some ways as I think when he is fit he is a class player who can hold the ball up and link up play so well and we’ve no doubt he’ll find another club quickly.

“We’ve got a small squad of 14, the majority of who are local and it’s another chance for others to show what they can do. So far the young lads have done brilliantly and as I said last week their attitude and commitment can’t be faulted. Some have shown already they are capable of playing at this standard and it’s up to others now to show they can do the same.”

Cugley will inevitably be looking towards promising attacking youngsters Kieron Byrne and Joe Neilson to continue their recent form and push for regular starting places.

With the departure of Corbo, the Folkestone manager has no fresh injury worries to contend with this weekend when Worthing make the trip along the coast to the Buzzlines Stadium.

Darren Smith also returns to the squad after being unavailable last weekend although the League match at Chipstead was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

“They were both matches (against Whyteleafe and Chipstead) where I thought we could’ve got points from and we now have three very difficult games coming up which will see what these young lads are made of.

“I went to watch Ashford at the weekend who look a good side, experienced and strong with 6 ex Folkestone players which will make it interesting to say the least. Obviously we have Worthing on Saturday who are looking a top side at the minute and who haven’t lost for 12 matches and Sittingbourne who are right up there now."

“We are getting better as a team, we’re believing in ourselves more and we’re starting to get that bit more consistency. You don’t want to put pressure on young lads but at the same time we do want to stay in contention in the top half for as long as possible and winning matches is the only way to do that.”
