Invicta have this week signed striker Craig Thompson as manager Neil Cugley seeks to bolster his forward line.
Speaking to the official Club website the Folkestone boss commented, “He was at Maidstone and went to Faversham at the end of last year and he's contacted us about giving it a go. We'll be taking a look at him over the weeks ahead and to be fair to him he won't be getting paid during that time. I'd say he's a bustling centre forward and at this time where we're not happy with things in the final third, I think it's worthwhile us taking a look at him.
“He'll play tomorrow for the reserves against Faversham and if he performs he'll go straight into the squad for Tuesday. Players like Swallow, Somerville and Grant will all play in that one as well along with Luke Stonebridge and I'll be watching.
“I think out of the rest of the squad about ten of them have played every game so far this season and a game off this weekend won't do them any harm and should help certain players get over a few little injuries we've got. They trained hard Thursday night and some played in the friendly against Deal on Tuesday. Simon Austin picked up an injury after he played in that one but he should be fit for Tuesday”.
On the injury front, the gaffer was pleased to announce James Everitt has now resumed light training after breaking his foot and he commented it “wouldn't be a shock if he played for the reserves a week Saturday”.
Michael Yianni has now gone a dual registration and will therefore play for neighbours Hythe Town tomorrow.
“I don't think he's firing on all cylinders yet and the dual registration means if he does well down there we can call him back. I think he's 10% off what we know he can do and hopefully he'll do well down there and we'll see him back with us soon and I think the situation suits everybody.”
Jimmy Dryden played a half against Deal Town on Tuesday and was involved in training on Thursday night but Cugley remarked the forward's knee injury was still a concern and he'll face a late fitness test on Tuesday night when the Seasiders make the trip to Merstham.
“I think we're coming in to a crucial period now where we've got five matches in eighteen days so it is very important we push on and end this embarrassment of a lack of goals and goal mouth incidents. It's very frustrating for us and the fans and they pay to see excitement and goals and we must provide.
“I don't think it's through a lack of trying as we've tried a number of things but we'll keep trying until we find the right combination up front and the right system for the team.
“Merstham are doing well and are scoring a lot of goals and it should be a good game and hopefully we can start scoring a few ourselves. After that we're at home on the Saturday obviously, then we've got Whyteleafe, Sittingbourne and Ramsgate. We want to be winning those matches and getting goals and that's the only way we'll get into the play off positions come the end of the season.”
As has been recently documented, Dave Corey has been released and has returned to Whitstable Town.
“I didn't feel he was quite what we wanted and I think Simon Austin will suit the side better. To be fair to Dave Corey I think he was carrying a couple of injuries and he never really showed what he could do apart from the Eastbourne away game which was his best game by a long way. At that time we thought he had turned the corner but decisions have to be made and on a fairly tight budget we want to use the money the right way.”
