Two tough eggs to crack

Following last weekend’s match against Ryman One leaders Kingstonian, who have themselves edged three points clear of Cray Wanderers at the top, the Seasiders take on Dulwich Hamlet in the first of two matches over the Easter weekend.

Kent rivals Ashford Town then visit the Buzzlines Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday, with Invicta’s neighbours engulfed in well documented off the field problems at the present time – a situation Invicta fans will have some sympathy for in light of the Club’s current financial issues.

Speaking about his side’s performance against the leaders manager Neil Cugley remarked, “I thought we played well and I’d say first half I thought we actually played a lot better than the week before against Crowborough.

“We looked sharp, confident and the three straight wins before the match has given the lads a lot more confidence and I was delighted with the performance they put in. We made a lot of chances, particularly in the first half so it was disappointing we couldn’t put any away as that would have put the pressure on Kingstonian.

“I think second half their experience and our lack of numbers stopped us from getting back in the game.”

James Everitt (hamstring) will face a late fitness test on Saturday whilst it is hoped Liam Friend will be fit after missing the Kingstonian game. Jimmy Jackson was given the week off after a recent back problem, not helped by the harder playing surfaces. Impressive youngsters Josh Vincent (knee) and Josh Burchell (hamstring) should be fit to start at Dulwich.

It will have been a busy week for the Invicta boss as he scouts Kent for promising players. The manager watched Gillingham’s reserves lose to Crystal Palace reserves midweek, whilst he is set to watch Herne Bay this (Good) Friday.

“They (Dulwich) can score goals and we’ll have a go at them and we’ll expect them to have a go at us. At the beginning of the year both sides were right up there and I remember the 2-0 victory over them being a very good win for us.”

Folkestone and Dulwich are only separated by a point whilst Ashford lie just outside the play offs, with their chances of promotion having faded away for this year.

“Ashford are going through some difficulties at the moment and I don’t know the ins and outs but there are still some very good players there.

“It will be a very difficult game but I feel we have more confidence in our game than when we went up there at Christmas. I just hope we don’t pick up any injuries on Saturday as if we get one or two, we don’t have that strength in depth to cope properly.”
