Tomorrow's match vs Eastbourne Town postponed
Author: Sam Jones
Published: 8th January, 2010

Unsurprisingly tomorrow's game with Eastbourne Town has been postponed due to the snowy conditions that have hit the country over the past week or so. Normally in order to postpone a game the Match Referee (or an equivalent official if he lives too far away) has to do a pitch inspection but the League have taken into account the seriousness of the situation and allowed clubs to do their own inspections and postpone games if necessary which what we have now unfortunately done.

When postponing a game the following things need to be taken into account:

· Is the pitch fit to start the game? Obviously in this case no!

· Is the ground itself safe? No, as there is snow on the terraces and the path around the ground is icy

· Is it safe for our opponents to travel to/from Folkestone? Again at the moment this isn't really the case with icy roads and the Police advising people only to make essential journeys

· Is it safe for the match officials to travel to/from Folkestone? As per the previous answer, this would be against Police advice, in fact I received an e-mail yesterday from the Match Referee advising that he is currently stuck in his road due to the build up of snow

· Is it safe for supporters of both clubs to travel to/from Folkestone? Same applies about the roads and of course footpaths for those walking

· What is the forthcoming forecast? No encouragement being offered here neither with further snow and sub-zero temperatures not set to improve things.

Although this is something we don't like doing I am sure you can see we had very little choice in postponing the game, but I hope the above has given you an insight into the decision making when doing so.

Hopefully see you at Godalming next week!

Thanks,
Neil Pilcher
