The third annual Sponsored Walk took place on Saturday, prior to Invicta's home game with Kent rivals Sittingbourne at the Buzzlines Stadium.
The Walk took place between Hythe Town FC and Folkestone Invicta FC, via Folkestone Town Centre, from 10.00am. Present were faces you would see on the terraces during match days, members of Invicta's Youth setup right up to the Supporters Club Chairman himself!
It was hoped that many would turn up to experience the atmosphere that has been present on all previous Sponsored Walks that the Club has arranged - and this is precisely what was in store for the walkers on a cold, windy but also sunny day. We seem to be blessed with reasonable weather each time the walk takes place. The final total, once collected, will be in excess of £1,200 - a valiant effort from all who walked, collected, and sponsored.
It was good to see youngsters Josh, Abbie, Kaine & Rory take part and they kept up all the way! The bucket collection raised in excess of £30 and thanks to Vic, Marcus, Jon and Ian (for his vocals) who all made their presence felt with the buckets. Lots of people seemed to know what we were about, and some contributed to the cause en route. Geoff and Ian carrying an Invicta flag throughout also helped in that respect!
Youth development officer Sarah Parker gained most sponsorship for her efforts, but it was a team effort and Paul Sly would like to personally thank everybody who took part. Terry Bailey was still badgering people in
Stripes hours after the walk had finished, and was regularly adding to his own sposorship figure throughout the afternoon and early evening obtaining money from innocent bystanders!
One last thank you to Peter Young and his team who provided those that wanted it with hot refreshments back at Stripes afterwards, even taking individual orders.
The Supporters Club will put the money to good use.
Not all walkers have been named on here but you know who you are. Thank you and well done!
Last but not least of course, a big thank you to all those who sponsored us once again! The aim of this walk was to show the Directors, Management and indeed the town in general how much we all need and want Invicta to survive. This has been achieved.
