Millwall 3 - 5 Folkestone Invicta D.F.C

Author: Geraint Wilson
Published: 15th November, 2009

Invicta came away from the Lions Den with all 3 points on Sunday.  They came from behind to secure a hard fought win.

The opening exchanges were quite even with both teams going close.

Millwall took the lead when they bundled home a corner which Keeper Froud failed to deal with.  Millwall then pushed forward with Keeper Froud now dealing with everything.

Invicta managed to pull themselves back into the game more and when a great ball from Shepherd found Lefevre he thumped home the equaliser.

Invicta got on top and took the lead when from a superb free kick from Paton found the head of captain and man of the match Stewart Law and it flew into the net.

A long ball out of the Millwall defence caused indecision between Invicta's defence and keeper the Millwall forward capatalising and getting the equaliser.

Invicta   soon had there noses in front again when Rider ran onto Laws header rounding the keeper and slotting home for his first of the game and that was half time.

Invicta's two subs who had arrived late and come on just before half time added fresh legs.  With one of them (Pascoe) going close and Rider also missing a few chances, but when Lee was injured and had to go off it changed the game.  Millwall equalised again when Wilson was ajudged to have fouled the Millwall forward in the box.  He got up to score past 2nd half keeper Paton.

Invicta weathered the storm and Barnetts long ball Rider beat the offside trap and fired, Invicta in front.

Ten minutes later Invicta made the game safe when they got a corner and Rider scored direct from the corner to complete his hatrick.  Good defending from Froud, Bolton, Avery and Barnett saw Invicta home.

This was a good performance with two senior players missing.  Everyone that came in did well, said Manager Geraint Wilson.

I would also like to thank our supporters who travelled from Birmingham after playing their own game on Saturday.
