Folkestone Invicta 4-1 Tunbridge Wells
Author: Richard Murrill
Published: 29th July, 2008

Goals from Craig Wilkins (2), James Dryden and Josh Burchell gave Folkestone Invicta a 4-1 win over Tunbridge Wells in Tuesday night's pre-season friendly at a sunny Buzzlines Stadium.

Two goals in an early two-minute spell from strikers Wilkins and Dryden gave Invicta an earl stranglehold on the game.

WILKINS opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a great strike as he got in behind John Lord to latch onto a ball forward from defender Matt Bourne.

And striking partner DRYDEN made it 2-0 a minute later when he pounced from close range after centre half Bourne had headed against the crossbar. Dryden took a knock in the process but was not to be denied his third goal in four days.

WILKINS (below, right) struck again in the 50th minute with a sweet finish from the right hand side which went in off the post to make it 3-0 after Dryden had picked him out.

Gary CLARKE pulled a goal back from close range for the visitors in the 52nd minute when the Invicta defence failed to clear after an initial effort from Sam Phillips.

Teenager BURCHELL completed the scoring for Invicta when he finished with some aplomb in the 59th minute following a great run from Byron Walker down the right hand side of the penalty area in a move also involving Bourne and Lee Gledhill.

The visitors had the game's first chance when Joe Fuller headed a Barry Gardner free kick from the left at goalkeeper Charlie Mitten after nine minutes.

Following Invicta's opening two goals, Dan Jeffries got in behind Liam Friend after 14 minutes to meet Clarke's ball into the box but Mitten came out to save with his legs.

For Invicta, Walker shaved a post with a 20th minute shot from outside the penalty area after Dryden touched the ball on.

Jeffries shot wide across goal from the left hand side of the Invicta penalty area in the 24th minute after centre half Friend had given the ball away after initially winning it off the Tunbridge Wells striker.

A 20-yard Lee Spiller shot on the half hour mark was deflected just wide of the post for a corner after Wilkins touched the ball back.

At the other end, a Fuller shot whizzed past the Invicta post just before half time when right back Brad Sandeman's ball was allowed to evade the home defence.

Tunbridge Wells goalkeeper Chris Arnold saved a fierce 56th minute Dryden shot after a Walker touch when Wilkins could not meet Gledhill's ball in from the right in a move started by James Everitt.

Everitt himself had a 70th minute shot blocked by a defender following another Walker run and Dryden was close again seven minutes later with a rebound after another Everitt shot had been saved by Arnold.

Invicta were able to give first senior outings to youngsters Josh Vincent and Billy Swallow and also again brought on trialist goalkeeper Naz Jevrons.

Nick Humphrey limped off to join Jimmy Jackson, James Corbett, Danny Smith and Kieron Byrne on the treatment table, with Micheal Everitt away on holiday.
