Two goals in the final ten minutes gave Folkestone Invicta over Chipstead at the Buzzlines Stadium on Saturday afternoon as the Ryman League Division One south leaders returned to action with their first game of 2010.
Substitute Peter WILLIAMS scored the winning goal in the 86 th minute when he slotted the ball into the net after being put through down the middle by right back Josh Vincent.
Striker James EVERITT had equalised to make it 1-1 in the 81 st minute when he put the ball in after centre half Frankie Chappell had headed a Darren Smith cross back across goal at the far post after Smith had played a short corner with Jimmy Jackson on the right hand side.
Chipstead had opened the scoring as early as the fifth minute when new signing Daniel MOODY converted from close range after home goalkeeper Jack Delo could not hold the ball when under pressure as Jason Thompson sent the game's first corner over from the right hand side.
And the visitors threatened to hang on to their lead and spring an upset until Invicta turned the game around in the closing stages.
Invicta maintained their now regular starting eleven as they began again after their weather-enforced winter break on a heavy pitch.
But the home side suffered an early setback as Chipstead got their goal.
Chipstead had returned to action on Tuesday night with a 1-1 draw at home to Dulwich Hamlet and threatened again in the ninth minute when top goalscorer Sean Rivers headed just wide across goal at the far post after a free kick.
Another Thompson corner on the right then led to a melee in the Invicta goalmouth in the 17 th minute, but this time Chappell was able to clear.
Invicta responded as a deep 20 th minute Jackson cross was headed over at the far post by Vincent.
There were then chances at both ends as a Rivers shot from outside the penalty area was comfortably dealt with by Delo and Invicta centre half Liam Dickson shot wide when a Josh Burchell cross from the left came back outside the penalty area.
Goalscorer Moody had a chance to increase Chipstead's lead in the 37 th minute but he put the ball just wide after a big clearance from goalkeeper James Wastell carried all the way into the Invicta penalty area.
It was another good first half spell for the visitors as Moody shot wide again when an Arron Smith shot fell to him inside the penalty area a minute later and captain Scott Simpson could only shoot at Delo when he closed in on goal after 38 minutes.
At the other end, Wastell saved when Vincent cut in from the right hand side in the 41 st minute.
But Chipstead came forward again and a Moody shot from the left hand side of the penalty area hit the top of the Invicta crossbar during first half stoppage time.
Invicta pressed for an equaliser from the start of the second half as a Jackson corner on the right was met by Dickson at the far post and James Everitt was just unable to force the ball over the line.
A cross from the right hand side gave Rivers a half chance at the other end, but Jackson warmed visiting goalkeeper Wastell's hands with a shot from just outside the penalty area.
Smith then played a 49 th minute cross in from the right hand side that was just too high for Burchell at the far post.
Chipstead had lost Ryan Watts during the first half and made a double substitution early in the second half.
Invicta responded in kind as strikers Williams and James Dryden replaced left back Burchell and Simon Austin on the hour mark, with the home side switching to 4-3-3 as Liam Friend moved across to full back.
Wastell saved from Invicta captain Micheal Eveirtt at the expense of a corner in the 67 th minute as Invicta still trailed.
Chipstead striker Rivers headed a 70 th minute cross from the right across goal.
But Invicta have a good habit of finishing games strongly this season and a hanging 74 th minute Jackson corner led to a goalmouth scramble that Wastell was able to claim.
And Everitt's equaliser was to provide the crucial breakthrough for the home side as he became the club's joint top goalscorer so far this season with five, the goals having been spread throughout the side.
Williams has himself now contributed three of those goals as his late winner here can now be added to previous important second half home goals against both Walton Casuals and Ramsgate.
Chipstead's Michael Donovan was booked for a bad 88 th minute challenge on James Everitt.
And Invicta finished the game in the ascendancy as Jackson let fly from outside the penalty area as he shot just wide of the post.
