Folkestone Invicta were denied their first home win of the season after a 68th minute equaliser from Elliot Onochie earned Harrow Borough a point at a sunny Buzzlines Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Neil Cugley’s side had opened the scoring thanks to an early goal from Ellis Remy but were pegged back as they drew 1-1 at home for a second successive Saturday. Remy was back in the starting line up for the only the second time this season after an ankle injury and came in for the injured Leigh Bremner (hamstring)). And it did not take long for last season’s top goalscorer REMY to open his account for the season against one of his former clubs as he picked his spot and found the net from the left hand side of the penalty area. Invicta’s goal came following some superb play in the fifth minute when Mark Saunders played a great ball through to James Corbett who contributed a couple of equally good touches before laying the ball into the path of his striking partner. It was the first time so far this season that Invicta had taken the lead at home. But the home side were unable to increase their lead despite several near misses and ONOCHIE equalised when he headed home following a good run and cross from Albert Adomah down the right hand side. Invicta had earlier started well as Remy nodded down a Roland Edge cross from the left in the second minute but Corbett could not quite get his shot in. Harrow responded to Invicta’s early goal as Dewayne Clarke was wide of the far post with an overhead kick after five minutes when goalkeeper Kieron Mann could not hold Frazer toms’ cross from the left. And Mann saved at the feet of Onochie following a free kick from the right after ten minutes. A good one-two between Corbett and Remy threatened to let the latter in again after 28 minutes, while a Clarke shot deflected off Kevin Watson at the other end two minutes later. Invicta were desperately close to a second goal after 33 minutes when Harrow goalkeeper Gary Ross made a superb point blank save to keep out a Saunders header when Corbett played in a good cross from the right. Both James Everitt and Edge were close to converting Watson’s deep free kick from the right at the far post in the 47th minute following a foul on Remy. James Bent headed tamely at Mann following a Harrow corner on the left after 58 minutes as Invicta remained in front, while Corbett tried his luck from 25 yards at the other end a minute later when he fired wide. Adomah then shot at Mann from just outside the penalty area after combining with Clarke in the 63rd minute. Invicta though were close again when Saunders met an Edge free kick and James Everitt tried to force the ball over the line in the goal mouth, with Corbett’s follow up blocked. But Onochie’s equaliser was to undo all Invicta’s efforts. The home side responded as Micheal Everitt shot over from the edge of the penalty area, but at the other end centre half Liam Friend had to head clear on his 50th starting appearance for the club when Adomah broke again and played the ball in after 69 minutes. Harrow substitute Rene James-Barriteau missed a chance to make an instant impact when he blasted high and wide in the 84th minute after Onochie had played the ball back to him on the right hand side of the box. Invicta came close to winning it during stoppage time when captain Edge could only play the ball across goal from a tight angle at the far post when Remy met a cross from the right. There were bookings for Invicta’s Frankie Chappell (bringing down Clarke after 49 minutes) and for Harrow’s Jamie Lawrence (bad challenge on Corbett after 62 minutes) and Gary Meakin (86 minutes). |
