Folkestone Invicta continued their good start to the Ryman League Division One South season with a hard fought 1-0 win away to Fleet Town on Saturday afternoon to give Neil Cugley's side seven points out of nine and a second successive away win.
Centre half Frankie CHAPPELL headed in the only goal of the game from an 11 th minute Darren Smith free kick on the left hand side at Calthorpe Park.
But Invicta had to ride their luck during the second half when the home side piled on the pressure in search of an equaliser.
Invicta kept the same starting line up for a third successive match from the start of the new season, with James Dryden only fit enough to make up the numbers on the substitutes' bench.
It was a feisty start to the game as Fleet's Nathan Smart caught Micheal Everitt in the opening minute and Invicta captain Everitt was himself booked in he third minute for a lunge at Smart
Fleet's Tyron Smith was then booked for a foul on Jimmy Jackson which led to the goal and Invicta striker James Everitt also took a whack from home captain Steve Noakes in the early skirmishes.
Smart hit a low seventh minute shot wide of the far post from the right hand side of the penalty area.
But Invicta got the all-important breakthrough courtesy of Chappell's header.
For Fleet, Tyron Smith shot wide with a low 19 th minute shot from the edge of the penalty area when a free kick from the right came back out to him.
Invicta striker David Cory shot wide on the turn from outside the penalty area in the 34 th minute following a ball forward from central defender Liam Friend.
At the other end, Fleet striker Eddie Smith shot tamely at goalkeeper Jack Delo in the 39 th minute following good skill from Tyron Smith inside the penalty area in a move also involving Tom Bird and Leigh Rumbold down the left.
Fleet striker Smith was booked for putting the ball into the net after impeding goalkeeper Delo and taking the ball off him as he tried to clear with a drop kick.
Goalscorer Chappell then made a vital defensive interception deep into first half stoppage time.
The second half was all Fleet from the start as Darren Wheeler shot wide across gaol from the left hand side of the penalty area after a big kick from goalkeeper David Smalley.
Ian Griffin then rattled the Invicta crossbar in the 49 th minute when a Smart shot came back out and Micheal Everitt blocked from Eddie Smith at the expense of a corner on the right hand side of the penalty area as the pressure continued.
Invicta's Cory (left) then became the latest player to be booked.
Rumbold met Wheeler's 58 th minute free kick and headed just in front of Eddie Smith in the Invicta goalmouth.
Centre half Noakes then met a Wheeler corner on the left with a strong header on the hour mark which hit Friend on the head and went over the crossbar for another corner.
Noakes met another free kick from the left at the far post five minutes later but Michael Everitt headed out for a corner and fellow centre half Luke Evans was just wide at the far post when he headed Wheelr's corner on the right.
Smart could then not find enough power as he intercepted Josh Burchell's attempted clearance back to Delo.
Invicta were hanging on as Fleet camped in their half.
The visitors' Smith then became the third visiting player to be booked.
Delo saved substitute James Field's 71 st minute overhead kick following another ball into the Invicta penalty area, with Friend and Chappell continuing to win headers at the heart of the visitors' defence.
A great 77 th minute run from Wheeler took him inside the Invicta penalty area but he could only win a corner via Micheal Everitt and the side netting.
Fleet defender Evans was the next booking for bringing down James Everitt in the 85 th minute as Invicta saw the time out and Smith hit the subsequent free kick over the crossbar.
Cory shot at home goalkeeper Smalley two minutes later from the left hand side of the penalty area after Smith made room for himself inside the penalty area.
An 879 th minute Griffin shot deflected off James Everitt for a corner, from which Invicta goalkeeper Delo made an excellent save with his feet to deny substitute Dan Read when Wheeler sent the ball over from the right.
A stoppage time cross from Tyron Smith fell to Smart inside the penalty area, but his shot deflected off James Everitt and into Delo's arms.
