Corinthian-Casuals 1-2 Folkestone Invicta
Author: Richard Murrill
Published: 7th November, 2009

Two goals from James Everitt gave Folkestone Invicta all three points from their visit to Corinthian-Casuals on Saturday afternoon and maintained Neil Cugley's side's unbeaten away record so far this season.

Everitt opened the scoring after just 32 seconds in front of a season's best 147 crowd at King George's Field and made it 2-0 early in the second half before Joe McNerney pulled a goal back.

The younger Everitt brother had gone off with a hamstring injury in the opening minutes of last season's corresponding fixture but will have fonder memories of this return visit.

Having scored on his return in Invicta's previous fixture at home to Sittingbourne after a recent foot injury, EVERITT did not have to wait long to find the net again. The versatile striker applied a neat low finish into the far corner of the net to complete a good move down the right hand side as he latched onto a pass from Darren Smith to score Invicta's first goal in their new kit!

And 22-year-old EVERITT made it 2-0 in the 55 th minute when he again found the corner of the net when Jimmy Jackson played the ball through down the left hand side of the penalty area.

‘Ratty's' three goals in the last two games takes him equal with Smith as Invicta's leading goalscorer so far this season.

McNERNEY headed in a 61 st minute corner from Kane Sergeant to reduce the deficit, but Invicta held on for another win.

The game's other main talking point came in the 20 th minute when Jack Delo saved a penalty from Scott Corbett. The Invicta goalkeeper had escaped with just a yellow card after bringing down Jamal Carr as referee P. Wright deemed that it had not been a goalscoring opportunity as he felt that the Casuals man was going away from goal.

The home side had reacted to going a goal down in the first minute as a tenth minute Carr volley hit team mate Saheed Sankoh in the middle of the penalty area after a Corbett ball in from the right and McNerney headed across the Invicta goal when Dale Hennessey played the ball in from the left three minutes later.

A 15 th minute Jackson free kick was then met by Invicta centre half Frankie Chappell and cleared for the game's first corner.

There was a scare for Invicta two minutes later when Carr put the ball over goalkeeper Delo but wide of the post when he latched onto a big kick from goalkeeper Luke Naughton and centre half Liam Friend left the ball after receiving a call from Delo behind him.

And Casuals were awarded their penalty three minutes later when Tyrone Myton played the ball in and Carr took it down well on his chest before being brought down as he attempted to go round Delo.

But as at Chipstead back in September, Delo was to save a penalty he himself had conceded.

At the other end, Smith shot across goal after breaking down the right hand side of the penalty area in the 25 th minute.

A combination of central defenders Liam Dickson (left) and Friend got the ball out for the home side's first corner of the game in the 40 th minute when Myton played the ball in to Sankoh.

Home goalkeeper Naughton got across to pluck a 55 th minute Jackson free kick out of the air after a foul by Youssef Metwali on James Everitt.

And Everitt soon made it 2-0 when Jackson turned provider.

But Casuals got back into the game as from a Hennessey cross Delo first kept out a McNerney header and then denied the striker from point blank at the expense of a corner.

But McNerney, on loan from Woking, headed home Sergeant's subsequent ball in.

And Invicta then had to defend their lead doggedly as left back Josh Burchell cleared from close to the line when substitute Carlton Murray-Price played the ball back in after McNerney could not get enough power on his header in the middle.

Delo came out to save from substitute Nicky Ogbanufe in the 73 rd minute when Carr and Sergeant combined to put him through one-on-one after an Invicta corner at the other end.

Friend then made a vital 77 th minute block when the ball broke for Carr and Josh Vincent cleared from Ogbanufe to avert any further danger.

And Murray-Price volleyed over from virtually on the goal line when it seemed easier to score in the 87 th minute when a throw in from the right hand side deflected off Chappell.

There were second half bookings for Casuals' Gavin Cartwright (bringing down James Everitt) and Hennessey (dissent) and for Invicta's Jackson (challenge on McNerney).
