Deal Town 1-2 Folkestone Invicta
Author: Richard Murrill
Published: 5th August, 2008

Second half goals from James Dryden and Byron Walker gave Folkestone Invicta victory in Tuesday night's pre-season friendly away to Deal Town after the home side had led thanks to a first half penalty.

Deal opened the scoring in the 37th minute when Darren WARING beat goalkeeper Naz Jevrons from the penalty spot after centre half Liam Friend had pulled back striker Mark Pollard.

DRYDEN equalised in the 53rd minute with a great header to meet a jimmy Jackson corner on the right.

And substitute WALKER (right) scored what turned out to be the winning goal with a confident 59th minute finish when a good ball from fellow half time substitute James Everitt put him clean through.

Invicta striker Dryden had earlier called home goalkeeper Danny Twyman into action as early as the second minute.

At the other end, Aaron Robinson chipped his shot just wide of the far post from the left hand side of the penalty area in the 23rd minute.

The visitors had the majority of the first half chances as a Lee Gledhill shot was deflected wide from the right hand edge of the penalty area after 27 minutes and Dryden shot just over the crossbar five minutes later.

A 36th minute Dryden free kick from the right hand side just evaded a crowd of players in the middle and flashed past the far post.

But it was Deal who were to take the lead.

Deal goalkeeper Twyman did well to keep out a Craig Wilkins shot after a Jackson free kick in the 42nd minute and Twyman saved again two minutes later to deny Dryden.

Twyman punched away a spectacular Walker strike after the interval seconds before Dryden's equaliser.

And it was the pacy Walker who then put the Folkestone side ahead.

Invicta were close again in the 67th minute when a great Gledhill ball in came back out to James Corbett whose shot was saved before the ball fell back into the grateful hands of goalkeeper Twyman.

Dryden then thumped the ball across goal from the right hand side of the penalty area in the 78th minute after another move involving captain Gledhill.
