The Deres rounded off their pre-season campaign with a defeat, but according to joint manager Paul Gorman, the result was not that important.
"Folkestone was a good test for us today," he said. "They move the ball about well and there is plenty of movement from their players. So it made my lads run about, chasing shadows at times, but it was a good workout for us, physically."
Gorman, who was without his joint manager Richie Radbourne who was celebrating the birth of a baby son this morning, said that pre-season has worked well for his players.
"Radders and me have altered our style of play a bit from last season and the players have taken a bit of time to get used to it, but we're almost there.
"We've taken bits and pieces from the games we've played and we're 99% there with the squad and system. By next Saturday, hopefully we'll have slotted in the last couple of pieces and we'll be ready to go."
On the pitch today, the Deres fell behind in the 11th minute when James Dryden ghosted in at the near post to head home from a corner.
The Deres got back on level terms after 23 minutes when Chris Hill rose highest at the far post to head home from Louis Collins' corner.
But Dryden restored Invicta's lead when his 30 yard shot after 31 minutes took a wicked deflection off a defenders boot to loop over a helpless Matt Bromby.
In the second half, Bromby showed why he is one of the best keepers in the Kent League when he twice produced stunning saves to keep the scores close.
First he saved Michael Yianni's volley from 10 yards out with an out-stretched hand to push the ball over the bar before he dived full length to push a James Everitt shot around the post.
Next weekend, it's for real. Hythe Town v Erith & Belvedere, Bulmers Cider Kent Football League, Reachfields Stadium. Kick off 3pm.
